Competency Goal V
To ensure a well-run, purposeful program to participant needs

As a childcare professional I do my part to maintain a well run purposeful program responsive to participant needs I would use my obervations tools to identify the strengths and goals of each child and the observation forms also help me know how to work with that child so he/she could be successful. Based on my knowledge of child development I use the observations of the children to identify any child who may need extra support or referral. I also use obervations to plan activities based on the children interests because I know children learn best when they are enjoying the activity. These are some of the things I would do to ensure and effective program

I do my part to maintain a well run purposeful program, responsive to participant needs. On their first day in our program, I make an effort to meet and greet our clients, the parents as well as the children. I ask the parents if they need any special requirements, accommodations or modifications to better service their children. I also ask the children which games they enjoy, and see if they have any questions for me about the program. This gives them an opportunity to know we have familiar activities that they are used to, gives them a chance to share their fears and worries about the program, and they also to get to know me a little better. With this information from the children, parents and our director, the counselors and I work together as planners, getting our weekly schedules for the children and taking turns delegating the activities. We come up with our own plans and put them together to form a enriched learning program.…

Having good observation skills when working with children is important because observations help when planning the child’s ‘next steps’. They can also help me to identify different learning opportunities and plan relevant and motivating experiences.…

I ask the parents if they need any special requirements, accommodations, or modifications to better service their children. Before the child enters the classroom, I make sure they know they are included. I post a welcome sign for each new child and their cubby is already labeled so they know where to store their belongings. Once the child has entered the classroom, I take another child and introduce them and then we all take a tour of the classroom. This gives us a time to get to know each other, I can find out their likes and dislikes, observe their interactions with other children, and begin to plan their development.…

2 . Explain the importance of observing and analysing children’s and young people’s play. Through observing a child, it helps you to understand and be aware of the child’s interests and levels of capability as well as engaging and stimulating program curriculum. Every practitioner should analyse observations they make of children so they can identify strengths and weaknesses and how far the child has developed. By doing this, practitioners can see where a child requires support and can plan out activities to further develop a child’s needs and are able to make relevant referrals if external support is needed. Observing is also known as a fundamental part of the EYFS, where practitioners are expected to observe children and make notes which helps to keep a record of each child’s progress through the EYFS and enables practioners to plan ahead on areas of learning that need to be more focused upon.…

Answer: When supporting the child's development, I will have observed the child looking at all the areas of the EYFS. I would have linked it. After I would have written my next steps. This will be effective because I can see what stage and in what area within the EYFS the child is at. I would then plan an activity that would be challenging. This will help me know what resources I need for the activity and also help the child further their development in a fun and happy way.…
