All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. One passion we as educators all share is the love for our students. Those of us who chose the path of working with special education students especially know that genuine place we have in our hearts for teaching students disabilities with learning disabilities. Over the last few decades, more awareness about these disabilities has florist throughout our nation. Many advocates of their time have fought to educate these students in order to help them overcome their struggle. Over time we see the long protect the rights of the students and provide them with the restrictive environment settings in order to provide an equal but adequate education. Despite the fact services are an essential part of protecting a student with special needs rights; it cannot be at the cost of their education either. If the student is able to complete the work at the same annual yearly progress as the general education population, proper services whether it be assistive technology or a personal aide, must be provided to the student. The services not only help students’ with special needs successfully graduate school but it provides them a promising future. Graduating with the tools and knowledge needed to survive on their own, students are now becoming functioning members of our society. As the candidate for my interview, I chose Dr.Gerard Crisinino, special education director of Jersey City Pubic School. He has instilled within him that compassion for working with these children and dedicated the last 30 years of his life to providing services for those students in need. Therefore, he was the perfect advocate to answer the following interview questions.…

A con that has raised much concern about the use of inclusion within the classroom is that teachers are not properly trained nor receive adequate support to teach a student with a disability. With teachers already struggling to provide appropriate education for students without disabilities due to rigorous standards and mounting pressure to perform, with such a large burden it becomes unrealistic for teachers to provide the attention needed and deserved for disabled students within a regular education classroom. With lack of training in specialized education areas, teachers are unable to properly serve disabled children and in turn these students are unable to receive an appropriate education accompanied by specialized attention and care needed in order to suitably benefit educationally.…

I Support positive self concepts and social skill all day at arrival time, children are allowed to play table toys with friend, thus being Thus being able through gestures and speech, to have social interactions. Another activity that encourages social interaction is music time. Sometimes children hold a colorful parachute handle while waving it up and down. This is a good way to learn to cooperate with peers and share materials. Another social activity is out door at the park. The children learn how to take turns eon swings and slides, and they can use their imagination to play fun games together which helps them practice decision making (such as who will be the mommy, who will be tagged etc). They can observe each other at play and imitate each other or movements in order to learn a new skill, such as sliding down the pole.…

To promote involvement and positive relationships with families and communities I believe that an open door policy is essential to have. I would do this by talking with the parents every day at drop off and pick up time. During the morning drop off time I would be able to find out how the previous afternoon went, if I wasn't there to see it myself, and how the child slept the previous night. I could also find out whether or not the child ate breakfast. During afternoon pick up time I would be able to tell the parent how the child's day went. I would also keep daily sheets for each child that would include bathroom breaks, what and how much the child ate throughout the day, as well as any concerns or questions I might have about the child. Another way I would keep the open door policy is by sending home a weekly newsletter informing the parents of what would be going on that week in the classroom. I would encourage parents to call the center or stop by to see how things are going for the child. I know that when parents are working they, often times, wonder about the child's day. By calling or stopping by they are able to peek in on the child and get updates are how the day is going. I would also encourage parents to attend any special event that the child is apart of, such as Christmas programs. The parents would, also, be more than welcome to have lunch with the child on his or her birthday if they are available to do so. I believe that, as a teacher, it is important to be the support system for the child while he or she is at school and while the parents are away at work. If the parents are working on something, such as using manners or potty training, I would be more than willing to help them by reinforcing that task while the child is at school. It is very important for both the child and the parents to have consistency in their daily routine. I believe that by…

All teachers are, or soon will be, teaching in classrooms that include students with disabilities. It is becoming increasingly unacceptable to limit the number of teachers in a school who have the skills to teach disabled students to only a few special education teachers. Regular teachers too must know how to teach such students to read, write, communicate and achieve to the highest educational standards. Excellent education is education that is excellent for all. Children come from all racial, ethnic, and national origins and all economic backgrounds and in all this mix there are some children that have disabilities. If our education system is to be excellent, it must be based on the premise that every student can learn. By implementing inclusion into schools, children learn to accept individual differences. The best way to help children overcome their misconceptions about kids who have disabilities is to bring them together in integrated settings.…
