Competency Statement VI Professionalism
Competency Statement VI (To maintain a commitment to professionalism)
My professional skills meet this standard because I am committed to providing valuable work ethics that meet the needs of the children, parents, the community, and the facility at which I work. Professionalism should be one of the main priorities and any work place. I exhibit the characteristics of a professional by doing my best to meet the needs for every child on a daily basis. I do not bring any of my personal issues into the facility and only speak and act professionally to my co-workers, children, as well as the parents.
CS VI a I chose to become an early childhood professional because I have a heart for children and meeting their needs. I have worked with the children at my church for years and I love it. Once I started as a teacher assistant at my job, and was able to work with children with special needs, I thought this is what my passion is. So I worked hard as an assistant until I advanced as a lead, and then a teacher with my own classroom. I love my job, and learn a lot on a daily basis. I finished my Bachelor’s degree and now is pursuing my CDA to get my own facility!

    In order to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I first begin with providing a clean and organized classroom. All toys and equipment are sanitized on a daily basis, all outlets are covered and all fixtures are mounted to the walls to prevent from tipping over. Upon entering the classroom every parent is required to sign a daily health check in which the teacher and the parent both assess the health of each child. Healthy meals and snacks are provided to each and every child, keeping in mind, the allergies that each child has. Medicines are also carried for each student that requires it on a daily basis. The classroom tables are wiped down and sanitized and the floor is swept after each meal. The children also brush their teeth after meals to help the children gain healthy brushing habits. The teacher child ratio is maintained at all times.…

    To maintain a commitment to professionalism in childcare you should set a goal for yourself. My goal in my classroom is to set a standard of excellence with in my facility and to commit myself to the growth and development of each child in offering a positive, kind, loving, and safe atmosphere. I have respect, not only for myself but, for my center, each child, and their families. I keep all parental information shared with me confidential. I also uphold all health and safety regulations and make children's well-being my top priority. I remain trustworthy to children parents and staff at the center. I also respect family diversity. This includes but is not limited to cultural differences, orientation, or economic status. I encourage individuality in children. I treat each child with respect and help them to build a positive self- image. Being informed is being ready to assist any child with any need they may have. I feel it is important to always stay positive and keep a smile on your face. Stay on top of new regulations for your center as well as updated laws and other developments within early childhood education. Always make sure you have information to help parents that have children with additional needs your center cannot provide and have contact information readily available for the reporting of any sexual abuse, child abuse, or neglect. I feel I am a kind and loving person and am genuinely concerned about the growth and development of each child entering my center.
