Competence has been emphasized because in professional practice so that professionals practice the standards in the ethical codes. The emphasis on competence has been intended to help psychologists and counselors define the meaning of competent practice and research of various groups (Kitchener & Anderson, 2010). Evidence-based practice is good because it integrates the best research evidence, clinical judgment and expertise, and client preferences and values (Stevens, 2013). This practice increases the chances that clients will receive treatments that work, and decreases the chances that clients will be exposed to interventions that are ineffective or that can cause harm (Stevens, 2013). Other advantages of evidence-based practices are that it identifies effective interventions based on reviews of multiple studies rather than on subjective interpretations of reviewers (Stevens, 2013).
