accurately and in detail. I have developed to work individually and in a multicultural group environment. Studying BTEC medical science I have gained a broader knowledge of the Physiology of the human body system. Studying the diseases and infections unit has helped me become more aware how the body fights off diseases and infections. This will help towards my nursing career, as I am aware how the human body works from the inside.
Also my AS ICT A-level has helped me develop analytical skills.
My work experience at a nursery gave me the chance to work with a variety of children; I developed observational skills by having a greater understanding of different requirements needed for different children. I helped a child recover from an injured cut, and I also helped to reassure children, as I child nurse I will have to observe patient's constantly by trying to help them recover in the best possible way. As the nursery is a demanding busy environment,
I leant to listen and interpret what a child needs in order for a successful outcome, this will play an important part towards my nursing career as I will come across different patients in different situations.In addition, volunteering at the elderly care home has expanded my organizational skills, here I get hands on practical experience to work with vulnerable patients, and I have to organize myself to give each patient sufficient care by helping them with their daily routine.
Having done work experience at a solicitors firm I developed great communication skills with clients. There is the need to maintain a mature, sensitive and serious manner which is
useful when talking to patient's parents, and handling with serious matters throughout the nursing career. I also learnt to improve on my observation skills, observing and gathering resources, information and documents for each particular job. I will use my observational skills to interpret a child's behavior, physically and emotionally.
I have achieved a certificate as a young first aider; the training helped me gain a wider insight to the practical side in the healthcare sector. Upon achieving this I am able to help others by giving advice on certain injures, give mouth to mouth resuscitation, helping someone recover from minor burns and use a bandage correctly. The training also helped me to use my own initiative accordingly.
My hobbies and interest include taking part at local charity appeals, reading, cooking, babysitting where I am responsible of children between ages from 3-10 years, I have the responsibility of taking care of children and making sure that they are well, Reassuring them when needed and keeping them happy. I will always talk to the parents to make sure they know how their child has coped, either from a normal day to if they are ill or not feeling themselves. I have developed my time management skills by balancing my academic studies with other commitments.
Studying nursing at university will enable me to build upon the knowledge and skills I have gained and will open new opportunities. I have an interest in my chosen subject and I am keen to learn more about different aspects of nursing that I have not yet encountered.
