Nursing is a very challenging and interesting career which involves hard work and commitment. Since I started studying Health and Social Care, my interest in Nursing has grown. This has inspired me to study Child Nursing as I believe that my studies can be practically applied. I am also keen to make a difference to people’s lives, whether caring for children or supporting parents. My interest in and appreciation for this career has been encouraged by family members who work in the NHS, and who have made me aware of its less glamorous side, as well as the positivity of caring for others.

This was an invaluable experience as I was able to develop and enhance new skills. For example I was given the role of a leader to ensure that students were using the correct method on the mannequin. When we were given the task to stitch up the cut, I guided them; making sure that they all had clean hands and cleaned the injured area with antiseptic wipes before stitching. I was also able to enhance team-working skills as it was vital during this time. My communication skills also developed as I had to explain the methods clearly. At this workshop I learned how to do CPR which increased my confidence as I learned how to react to emergency situations. Moreover I learned about First Aid and how to apply it during an emergency. Work experience with Key Stage 1 at a Primary school gave me an insight into young children and how their behaviour varies at this age. I worked with teachers to produce lesson plans, and which I was able to assist by helping to supervise the children in the class and making sure they were safe, all of which developed my interest in Child
