Competitive Advantage
A competitive advantage is an advantage over competitors gained by offering consumers greater value either by means of lower prices or by providing greater benefits and services that justify higher prices.

Competitive strategies

1. Differentiation-this involves selecting one or more criteria used by buyers in a market. It is about charging a premium price that more than covers the additional production cost and about giving customers clear reasons to prefer the product over other, less differentiated products

2. Cost leadership-the objective is to become the lowest cost producer in the industry.

3. Differentiation focus strategy- a business aims to differentiate with just one or a small number of target segments. The special customer needs of the segment mean that they are opportunities to provide products that are clearly different from competitors who may be targeting a broader group of customers.

4. Cost focus-here a business seeks a lower cost advantage in just one or a small number of market segments. The product will be basic perhaps a similar product to the higher price and featured market leader but acceptable to sufficient consumers.

Generally ,as per the Porter's Generic Strategies there are only two strategies are available to the firm i.e., differentiation and cost leadership. These strategies are the strength of the market which is independent of the product and industry. Along with these two strategies the focus strategy is also there which is the combination of low cost and differentiation strategy. The Focus strategy help firms to provide the unique good quality product with the low cost that focus on the Narrow Market segments. Advantage with the Focus Strategy is that it helps the both customer and organization side. Customers fulfil their needs within their budget and organization also gain its profits but the implementation of the Focus Strategy is very risky which required more studies of the market and about competitors. As per my aspects Focus strategy really helps the organization to able to produce the good quality of product within the customer budgets which also focus on the market demand.…

A for-profit company achieves competitive advantage when its profits increase significantly, most commonly through increased market share. The listed eight basic initiatives below can be used to gain competitive advantage, including offering a product or service that competitors cannot provide or providing the same product or service more attractively to customers. It is important to understand that the eight listed are the most common, but not the only, types of business strategy an organization can pursue. Competitive advantage and strategies are important for companies to understand and utilize. Competitive advantage allows a company to stay ahead of its competition. Strategy on the other hand allows a company to have a plan for success. According to the article “Winning strategy for business, Response books”, “Strategy comes to be defined in every company with two independent and simultaneous processes” (Gorapaj, 2010, p.334). In order for Napster to see success and longevity in the online music distribution arena, an S.W.O.T analysis must be formed to analyze the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Napster’s strengths are its wide selection of music, its brand name, and its convenience. Napster’s weaknesses are its pricing and its inability to differentiate. Napster’s opportunities are the decline of illegal peer to peer file sharing and the market growth. Napster’s threats are its competition with ITunes and its inability to offer a faster download bandwidth. An S.W.O.T analysis will help Napster figure out how to first overcome its competition, guarantee its longevity and acquire and retain its customers. In order for Napster to develop a competitive advantage, it must increase its music library and create a companion device such as IPod. Napster must also seek out partnerships with major companies. Napster will need to attract new customers by providing a 30 day free trial for its service and the monthly subscription will need to be lowered in order to gain a competitive advantage.…

Best cost provider strategies attempt to provide the highest quality for the lowest cost. Focused strategy, also known as niche-market strategy, seeks to out compete in a smaller segment. The niche-market strategy has two types, one based on low cost and other based on differentiation.…

Differentiation is a non-price strategy. Instead of gaining customers by offering them the lowest price, you will attract them with value-adding features. In a cake business you can do this by increasing the quality of your cakes; for instance, you may choose to only use premium ingredients or develop special recipes. You can also differentiate yourself through added services, such as customized cake orders or delivery or rush service options.…
