Importance of Completing Post-secondary Program
I feel like I cannot run full speed in the race of life. I cannot reach for many opportunities which I believe I could have availed if I had a degree. I am now left out and thus success or achievement is a far cry for me. I am lagging behind in personal development as well. My contribution to the society also is strained because of this lack in education. Education is the most important process in life, passing on knowledge from one generation to another. Due to the financial crisis, my parents had to work to support their families instead of going to school. It was unfortunate for them. As time progressed, education became more important. My parents have emphasized the importance of having an

Learning new skills and knowledge is something that is required every day in my job. Currently, I am not eligible for promotions because I don’t have the necessary college degree. Also, when I try to compete with others for jobs that don’t require a college degree, the other applicants have some type of formal education on their résumés that outweighs my background. I want this college degree so I can compete with others for the jobs for which I am qualified. Today’s employment market is filled with talented people who have various degrees, speak multiple languages, and have varying experience levels. Without a degree, it will become more difficult as I get older to find a position I not only enjoy but that also provides for my family.…

Society fails to include the extremities of life and its circumstances when considering a person’s value. Not having the opportunity to continue school is very common. One example is Rose’s mother who had to “quit school in the seventh grade to help raise her brothers and sisters” (98). Another example is of my parents who were born in another country and who did not have the level of formal education past high school. This made it very challenging for my parents to go to school because they had many varied responsibilities, including going to work to the family. Another example is my friend Catherine who gave birth to her first newborn, who also watched her father pass away two months before her son’s birthdate. These life-changing events influenced her inability to afford time and money for college. All these people are deemed less intelligent because they do not fit the given model for society to judge them…

Educational opportunity does not come for everyone as my teachers in high school once said. Our education may get affected by different factors since the moment we are born. The type of education that you might receive may be poor or may be the highest level of education. Working class students get a poor education already being taught to obey and listen to orders while the elite class works in developing intellectual power. It all depends on your parent’s jobs, and economic standings. Depending on your social standing you can get a good or a poor education. Many people think that we all have the same opportunity as upper class does. Authors Jean Anyon, Mitchell Landsberg, and Gregory Mantsios have wrote in their…

Education can be taken in many different perspectives. Not having enough education can affect the rest of your life but also your future family. Many people have amazing opportunities to get degrees in some point of their lives, but they are not committed to achieve that goal or simply they don’t have enough money to pay for college. Some parents are against how the society deals with education while others agree and support their decisions. Parents can educate their children their own way, but it is also important to let the child have a chance in society. To let the child go to school and teach them the tools necessary to succeed and be able to fight for themselves when they are older. Which will give them the opportunity to compete for a job.…

Even those who wish to work face challenges. Society has reared even friends and family to belittle those who attempt to follow their inspiration. Those with jobs considered undignified or improper are seen as inferior in hierarchical fashion. Following the arts is considered a waste of time, whereas following science or math is considered spectacular. Careers such as lawyers, doctors, and engineers, are highly valued for the money they produce and the education they require. This is inherently harmful, not only to those who wish to follow other professions, but also due to it providing wealth inequality. Rather than health and happiness, money becomes the priority. Moreover, someone who is unable to acquire a higher education might not be seen as fit for most jobs. It is a vicious cycle, where people need degrees to land jobs deemed decent, need money to attain said education, and need education to obtain the…

Growing up I was simply indigent. My father worked two minimal wage jobs while my mother raised me. Both of my parents could not speak English and did not reach high school, which made it more difficult for me. After my older half-sister left I was in charge of any interaction between my parents and the English-speaking world. From translating for them to reading bills I was always there. Even through all that my parents worked hard so that I can attend a private school. But going to the private school wasn’t inexpensive; because of economic situations I often wasn’t able to take my midterms/final exam for each of my classes. Not taking these essential tests would often drop my grades a letter or two. I…

The education I have received from my parents has been fundamental in my personal development. “I will give my best and I will not accept less than that” that was how my father made me start my day. Since I was little my parents erased the words “ I can not” and “I do not know” from my vocabulary. They taught me that I had to face my responsibilities and problems no matter what, for this reason, I was astonished when we moved to Texas two years ago and they told me that I could not be in 11th grade.…

Starting at eight years old, I always envisioned attending college and obtaining a degree that would allow me to accomplish what I want in life. Over time, I have faced many obstacles such as dyslexia, emotional trauma, and family challenges. All through these challenges, I never let anything deter me from my course of attending college. Despite being able to overcome obstacles, I have come to realize there are things in life that I have little to no control over. Now that I have had time to experience the joys, hard work, and endless opportunities that come with being a college student, I have come too far to let anything stop me from finishing this chapter of my life. In combination with my scholarships and work-study, as a college student with little money I rely partly on my parents to finance my education. Although my parents will continue to do all they can to help finance my education, their income stability is not guaranteed, my family…

Time affects a successful life. Stay in the groove with your time before it’s too late. Time is not as flexible as you think when you get older. Those hard earned skills will not reward you on the same level as an…
