Why Am I Attending College Essay
Starting at eight years old, I always envisioned attending college and obtaining a degree that would allow me to accomplish what I want in life. Over time, I have faced many obstacles such as dyslexia, emotional trauma, and family challenges. All through these challenges, I never let anything deter me from my course of attending college. Despite being able to overcome obstacles, I have come to realize there are things in life that I have little to no control over. Now that I have had time to experience the joys, hard work, and endless opportunities that come with being a college student, I have come too far to let anything stop me from finishing this chapter of my life. In combination with my scholarships and work-study, as a college student with little money I rely partly on my parents to finance my education. Although my parents will continue to do all they can to help finance my education, their income stability is not guaranteed, my family …show more content…
Since becoming part time at Central College, my mom found two part-time positions to supplement the loss in income. While this is good, it is not ideal for our family and part-time positions are not fully guaranteed. Naturally, my mom is now seeking out employment opportunities close to North Carolina so that our family can reunite, and she can have a full-time position again. Although I am happy, if my mom were to get a job out of state it would jeopardizes my financial aid. A change in state residency would disqualify me from receiving my Iowa Tuition Grant which I heavily depend on to finance my tuition. Unusual circumstances such as a family of two households, uncertain income stability and state residency are all barriers that could prevent me from attending Luther College where I thrive as a

Throughout my time in high school I had never really given much thought into what I wanted to do once I graduated. I knew I was going to be going to some university to pursue a degree, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go. It wasn’t until I took AP Computer Science in 11th grade that I decided that pursing a degree in Computer Science was the right thing for me. This type of work was something that I greatly enjoyed and through computer science I would be able to solve problems in creative ways. When applying for colleges I didn’t get into the University of Florida. This was my top pick and for months I was looking forward to the possibility of attending there. I didn’t let that get me down because I still had plenty…

Brought up in a highly educated family, my parents expect me to excel in my studies. Living in Pakistan I have many opportunities to outdo in my studies. Speculating on this subject earlier while considering my grades and a list of schools/colleges in Karachi I shortlist some top-class schools/colleges for the commencement of my Advanced Level (A ‘level). My top priority was The Nixor College. I chose and gave preference to Nixor College as an institution for my A ‘level because in my opinion it gave me the best of the opportunities. The best of the administration combined with unparalleled faculty it is the pick of the bunch for me. The Nixor curriculum provides good and endless opportunities for the students to choose from. With a curriculum like that in Nixor every student enrolled in the college haves a golden opportunity for future advancement in his/her career. It’s a new college but the faculty is quite old in its experience. Not only the highly experienced teachers and the curriculum make the college reliable but also its support for the enrolled students through counseling is an excellent step towards dedicated and easy environment for the students. The experienced and dedicated professionals at Nixor make sure that the students are receiving proper counseling for there career, college and personal life, therefore making the student realize his/her potentials and presenting the students realistic point of views for their betterment. At the college good environment is maintained with the help of two bodies namely: “The Nixor government” and “The Nixor perfect body”. These two bodies in my opinion are the most feasible way to bridge the gap between administration and the students. They include the selected student each for a different office but with a same mission that helps in keeping the unity among the whole campus. For me Nixor is a complete college with best admin, outstanding faculty and a healthy combination of all the facilities such as the…

The biggest decision for most incoming college students is to decide if they’re going to stay in a relationship with their current boy/girlfriend. Some students think it is best if they break up with their boy/girlfriend. The reason is because they have in their mind that they’re not going to have as much fun at college if they’re in a relationship. Another reason is because they do not trust their boy/girlfriend enough for them to stay together while they’re away at college. Before a couple is about to leave for school they should follow these following processes.…

I was born and raised in a third-world country: Ethiopia. Even though Ethiopia is mainly known for her poverty and destitution, my life there was not that bad. Since my dad has lived in the USA since long before I arrived, I was able to go to private school in Ethiopia and get a good education. I came to the USA when I was fourteen years old. Nothing was as easy as I thought it would be. New country, new language, new home, new school, new friends: everything was new for me. Being a high school student made it even harder. It is obvious that all teens face typical problems during their high school life, like bullying, peer pressure, teen pregnancy, and boyfriend/girlfriend problems. Well, imagine how hard it is for foreign students to get used to a new country and new school on top of all those problems. It was not easy for me to make new friends, to get used to the new school, and, most importantly, to develop my English. However, those obstacles didn’t stop me from getting outstanding grades in my classes, even the ones that seemed like they might be beyond my level.…

A year after graduating from high school, I looked forward to being a first generation college graduate. However, my parents were not in support of my decision because from their perspective, they were sparing me the cost of an impractical and needlessly expensive education. Despite their opposition, it was a journey I was willing to take. I soon enrolled at local community college with high aspirations, but found that without direction it would be difficult to succeed. At this early stage of my academic journey, I decided to better reflect on my goals, temporarily withdrew from school, and reentered the workforce.…

Today my appreciation is stronger than ever. The college I have chosen not only provides me with the hands-on training, but also teaches me about real-life skills and communication. But due to a high financial cost needed to attend the college, I am very limited on my resources. My mother has a hard time taking care of the household, and thus does not have time to work. My father is the only source of income, and he works very hard to provide us with family necessities. It would really ease the burden on my shoulders if I had received the money for college tuition, and not fully depend on my family to make my dreams come true. I want to avoid being in debt after observing my cousin working long hours to pay back his loans. It would also help me reduce the stress which I may face concerning financial aid; therefore I can focus easily on my education in the classes.…
