Components of the Algal Biodiesel Power Plant
ALGAL BIO-DIESEL POWER PLANT
INTRODUCTION:
Algae- most promising alternative renewable energy source available. It decreases the need for fossil fuels and thus makes our environment healthier. Algae oil is produced as much faster as 30 times than other biomass feedstock while its producing amount is up to 300 times more resulting 600 tons of bio-diesel per day which will produce 200MW of electricity per hour. MAJOR COMPONENTS IN ALGAE BIO-DIESEL POWER PLANT: 1. Algae plantation 2. Algae oil extraction and bio-diesel plant 3. Internal combustion power plant Continuous Algae production utilizing the photobioreactors is a highly reliable method for producing high density monocultures of marine and fresh water algae.
The total control of all parameters are automatically controlled via a PLC, making the device dramatically reduce the labor requirements and eliminates handling problems.
The photobioreactors work by recirculating algae, nutrients, water and CO2 through transparent tubes to maximize the amount of light reaching the algal cells, the short light field maximizes this process; thereby enhancing the photosynthesis process.
There are two major types of extraction namely * Mechanical extraction * Chemical Extraction
The chemical extraction methods for algae extraction is done mainly using Chemical Solvents such as Benzene, Hexane. Other chemical methods include soxhlet extraction and supercritical fluid extraction.
The mechanical extraction methods include the Ultrasonic Extraction.

Alternative energy source is defined as any energy source that will replace oil and coal. These sources include solar power, windmills, natural gas, and nuclear energy. These alternatives alone will not help save our planet. However, the potential behind these alternatives is exciting and hopeful. If there is a chance to save our planted from more damage, then the government needs to act now.…

Alternative energy sources are those that are different from the typical sources we use today such as fossil fuels, nuclear and falling water; Alternatives can be solar, geothermal, hydrogen, gas, fusion, or any other energy source that a new technology could utilize (Tillery, Enger, & Ross, 2009, p. 69). Active Solar application is an…

The process of photosynthesis can be summarized as the photoautotroph consumption of carbon compounds as food and release of oxygen compounds as waste. The methods to measure the rate of photosynthesis are various. One method utilizes CO2 sensors to measure photoautotrophs CO2 intake under various luminescent environments. An elementary method utilizes H2O and NaHCO3 (Sodium Bicarbonate) for submersion of deoxygenized photoautotroph specimens to measure the release rate of oxygen compounds. Through the submersion method we recorded the rate of oxygen diffusion into the environment by observing the time it takes photoautotrophic specimens to reach buoyancy. The results produced from 40 mL of H2O, 1%, 0.6% and 0.3% NaHCO3 were within 25 minutes of initial submersion. The plurality of submerged photoautotrophic specimens resulted in release rates greater than 10 minutes for initial and final buoyancies in the solutions.…

Attention-Getter: According to the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, each year 315 billion gallons of crude oil are used in the United States alone, of which 52.5 billion gallons are produced into diesel. The amount of diesel used in the United States is going up each year and is not predicted to stop anytime soon. We need to find a stable supply to help decrease the dependency on diesel. Bio-diesel is a suitable material for this task.…

An understanding of the the four strokes in the internal combustion engine requires an overview of some of the engine's major components. The components in direct contact with the combustion gases are the cylinder, pistons, valves, and spark plugs. A piston moves up and down within the cylinder. Pistons are cylindrical metal objects whose tops form the base of each cylinder. Air is delivered to the cylinder through the in take valves and exhaust gases leave the cylinder through exhaust valves. The spark plug creates a spark and ignites the compressed air and fuel mixture.…
