I first started to see the world differently when I was in 5th grade.
In 5th grade teachers, in my opinion, try and build leadership skills. We did “ice breakers” or games that helped us get to know each other. In those games we had to build towers out of index cards and whoever had the tallest tower won. In those game leadership is necessary because if no one steps up, the building process will be disorganized and hectic. In my group no one stood up to corral the group so I took charge. That moment showed me that I can be a leader and that linked back to soccer because in soccer leadership is important if you want to help your team succeed. Now I strive to be a leader in every situation that comes my
way.
It’s important to try and be a leader, but it’s also important to assist others. In soccer an assist is when you pass the ball to someone else and they score. Assisting others in life is good too. A good leader helps others succeed. If a leader sees someone being excluded, it's there job to help that person get in the game or activity. It’s the same in soccer. If people aren’t passing to someone because “they're weird” or “there bad” it’s the leader's job to get them involved somehow. Whether it’s talking to your team to get them to pass to that person or it’s passing to that person yourself because the team might follow your lead. Leadership is not only be in charge and make your group organized, it is also important to assist your teammates or peers to help you, them, and your teammates or peers succeed in whatever task is in front of them.
As good as leadership and assistance is, commitment is just as important. Without commitment no one would ever finish everything. In soccer training is tough, especially when you're on break, because you just want to play the game. But in order to get better you have to train. It takes a lot of commitment. You also have to love what you are doing because if you don’t, you won’t have commitment to finish what you started.
All of these qualities that are good to have in life, I have learned from playing soccer. Qualities like leadership, assistance, and commitment have taught me a lot. Soccer taught me how to be a leader and good qualities of an leader. It also taught me a good leader assist people if they needed it. A good leader is also committed to their plan or idea. This is what soccer taught me and I plan to use it the rest of my life.
