If or/when these needs are not able to be met, then our emotional maturity are affected and sometimes our developmental progress id disturbed. So we constantly look for the approval and acceptance of others which is not exactly a bad thing but if your whole life is spent trying to get people to think very good of you or change their thoughts of you and then you can feel good about yourself then you are having an identity crisis because you have a lost identity. irrespective of our individual traits. A strong sense of personal identity allows the individual the ability to become independent thinkers who can work with a group while maintaining their unique identity.
Also to have the mental stability to “agree to disagree” without conflict. Independent thinkers throw aside attitudes of conformity, seeking to better understand themselves and their own hearts, and not through other people, books or organizations. These people understand that while knowledge can come from others, wisdom must come from within. It is sometimes extremely difficult to avoid losing your sense of identity in a world of mass communications, where individual self worth is determined by social standards relating to group thinking, group norms, and group expectations on the individual. What this means to say is that when a group of people are put together and one opinion is shared that seems okay then everyone in that group will jump on it and run with it. They will take that to mean that it is also their opinion without them having thought of it. So each person will not have formed their own opinion. They will just take what the other people say and think that it is right while not having their own opinion on why that
is.
