The famous Ralph Waldo Emerson quote, “build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door” has inspired many people to create mousetraps. Mousetraps are the most invented thing in America with over four thousand four hundred patents. Many mousetrap designs are created by ameture builders, and fewer than twenty five designs have ever made money. According to the article, the best mouse trap has already been built, the fundamental snap trap made by John Mast. The trap “consists simply of a three-by-one-and-a-half-inch pallet of pine upon which are stapled a fifteen-gauge coil- spring -powered “killer bar” a two-inch-long “trigger rod”, and a “bait pedal”. That trap was built in 1899, and no trap design has been better…

Computers have been modified a several times. They have come a long way since Charles Babbage invented his Difference Engine. His early computers could only make complicated calculations and print the results. But the computers that we have today are able to do much more than that. Today we use computers to play games, watch movies, listen to music etc. Now, this new world is totally changed. We have computers for all the work that people used to do manually. For example, if we solve a mathematical equation by our hand, we would take much more time as compared to a computer system solving the same mathematical equation. Most people prefer computers rather than hands because it has proved its worth.…

The past few weeks in my life have really had an impact on me. In such a short period of time, I have become more aware of the different cultures that exist around the world today. We tend to think that our way of life is the only way there is, or at least the only right way. It is very ignorant to think that everyone believes and behaves the same way. People should stop being so self-centered and take notice and interest in cultural diversity. There are numerous different cultures in our country alone. One in particular is the Amish culture, which I would like to familiarize you with. The Amish culture consists of many unique beliefs that makes their ways unlike that of any other culture. They lead a life of simplicity and yet have very harsh ways of doing things. The Amish is perhaps the most diverse culture in the entire United States.…
The setting and the imagery of the setting is used to communicate "The Story of an Hour's" theme of freedom, independence, and a new life. The story begins in a place that we are aware is public. It is in that room that Josephine tells her sister about the accident that killed her husband. Mrs. Mallard reaction is as expected. In her bedroom, a more private setting we see her internal thoughts about her husband’s death. The closed room represents the dull, trapping marriage Mrs. Mallard was in. Once she opens the windows it’s like her mind is open to the opportunities that are possible. What she sees out the window symbolizes her desire to start living her new life. Sunshine, people living; she’s ready to start what she’s been missing. The front of her house is described as “open square”. Multiple motifs of spring giving give us the impression of freedom and new life. She smells the rain, sees the commerce and hears a song and the birds. Instead of grieving the loss of her husband, she was “drinking the very elixir of life through that open window.” Even here we have three different settings representing three different emotions. The house represents her old life, what’s outside the window is what this new life can bring and her looking out the window is her new longing for this life.…
