Diamonds are beautiful, and last a life time but some come at a deadly cost and these diamonds are called blood diamonds. I agree with the statement because diamonds are very expensive stones and can be very profitable for businesses. There are many problems with blood diamonds like the violence, impact on the environment, and lastly they finance wars in the country’s that they are found.
Conflict diamonds do help international businesses because the businesses buy them cheap and sell them high creating big profits for them. These conflict diamonds have came at the price of millions of lives for only a pretty stone. All of the violence that comes along with these diamonds is destroying country’s and millions of peoples lives, some people are forced to search for diamonds in mines or rivers so that rebel groups can sell the diamonds to finance their own wars. Conflict diamonds caused rebel group Revolutionary United Front to chop off body parts of countless innocent men, women, and children in Sierra Leone between 1991 to 2002 after seizing control of the diamond mines to deter locals from supporting the government.
The environmental issue that comes along with these diamonds is devastating to the country's where they are found. Diamond mining has taken a heavy toll on Angola’s environment. The mining has caused soil erosion, which led to deforestation, and forced local populations to relocate. The country's diamond industry has been particularly careless in protecting rivers and streams from development. Diamond miners have re-routed rivers and constructed dams to expose riverbeds for mining, with disastrous effects on fish and wildlife. In extreme cases, diamond mining can cause entire ecosystems to collapse. Diamond miners in the Kono district of eastern Sierra Leone have left behind thousands of mining pits. Wildlife has vanished, topsoil has eroded, and land once suitable for farming is now a desolate moonscape. Abandoned
