Where the story takes place is an important part of every book and plays a big role in the plot of a book. In most books you learn the setting and where they will be taken place within the first few pages. “Okay for now” takes place in New York while “Conjured” takes place in the ‘real world’ most of the time but Eves flashbacks are in a magical world. ‘“We’re moving,” he said. Chewed. “Moving?” Said my mother. “To Marysville. Upstate.” Another red bite. Chewing.” (Okay for now pg. 5). “With her hand on my mouth, I watch the magic boxes swing back and forth.” (Conjured pg. 60).

In the book “Okay for now” the story is straightforward and does not leave the reader guessing. The book “Conjured” differs because the story does not make sense until the end of the book because the entire time the reader is wondering what is going on. Everything that happens leaves the reader guessing so they never really know what is going on throughout the story. When Eve has her second flashback in the bathroom, the reader could easily become confused about what had happened. “Her fingers wrap around my wrist, and she smiles at me. Then she plunges the sewing needle into my arm” (Conjured pg. 14). After these sentences Eve’s flashback is over and the story goes back to Eve in the ‘real
