Nationalism has been a past time of the United States, which has united people together for the greater good. However, this sense of pride and patriotism can be manipulated through imagery and hollow words. One example is an ad for the “Esprit de Corps Lamp” by The Hamilton Collection. This advertisement uses some appeals of non-material needs mentioned in Jib Fowels’ article “Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals” and patriotic imagery to appeal to the elderly. Through the use of patriotic imagery, buzzwords, and the appeal of the need for affiliation, the need to feel safe, and the need for guidance. The advertisement “Esprit de Corps” can appeal to a person’s non-material needs.
This article uses patriotic symbols and deep warm colours in order to capture an audience’s need for non-material needs. In the background of the advertisement is a large waving American flag, which appears to be indoors. The American flag appears to be taken over by a gradient orange-gold colour; this colour may represent a rising sun, which invokes hope. Also, golden colors are often used to infer nostalgic feelings within

This ad uses patriotic symbols to draw people in who want to be proud of their country, or to reminiscent past times. Nostalgia is a big part of this advertisement; since, the emotion gives a sense of both happiness and sadness. People want to think about how great their past was, so they talk to old friends, or look through old photo albums. Recently a trend has started where advertisers try to sell people their pasts, and so far they are succeeding. However, people cannot find their past by buying a lamp, they can only find their past by looking through their memories or

Nationalism, not sectionalism, was the driving force during the era of good feelings. Nationalism became the leading ideology of the American republic. While sectionalism proceeded in bringing the nation into turmoil and constant bickering among the politicians, as in the case with dealings leading to the Missouri compromise, nationalism was able to unite the nation into a headstrong body, led by an ever-increasing, more powerful central government.…

In hard times, advertisers look to comfort their consumers, and entice them to depend on their brand. One writer proposes “More often than not, the technique they chose to create such comfort was through nostalgic advertising (Boyle, as cited in Merchant, A., Latour, K., Ford, J.B., & Latour, M.S., 2013). The Kal Kan ad appeals to pet owners by convincing them there is a great need to care for their aging pets, of which they have spent…

    1. The three components of the American System were establishing a new protective tariff, starting a new transportation system and restoring the national bank. Henry Clay thought that each of these components would strengthen and unify the nation because he thought the American system would unite the nation's economic resources because the south would grow food and raise animals that the north would eat and in return the south would by the manufactured goods the north made. A new transportation system would allow trade between the north and the south. Now America could finally become independent economically. And the tariff would help because during the War of 1812 British merchants brought a great deal of products to the United States and sold them at much lower prices than American made goods, so the tariff would raise the prices of the British goods so the American merchants could sell their products at a lower price.…

There are multitudes of unique and genuine advertisements that span from tv advertisements to ads in magazines. Due to the differentiation in the means of communication, both the structural aspects and the presentation of the advertisements vary paramountly. When crafting magazine advertisements, the producer is restricted to specific means of broadcasting their beliefs in essence. The advertiser has to assimilate both physical and literal elements in a equitable manner to fully convey what the argument is claiming. However, this circumspection subjects them to select the most applicable pictures and terms. Furthermore, in order to avoid failure and the chances of a page flipped too early, a magazine advertisement has to utterly enthrall the consumer's attention.. One particular advertisement conveying these said messages can be found in an issue of “Game Informer” magazine. There is a much deeper message being conveyed than just claiming it is “army strong” to live life to the fullest. The prime memorandum being proposed is that enlisting in the Army is both seen as a true act of honor and will propense a strong minded character that will see nothing but utter success throughout life. This message is transmitted through the ample use of both logos and pathos, but it is also diluted by the generality of the dull statements that are used.…

What is the first thought that comes to mind when you notice an American flag? Most people think of patriotic things, such as freedom, strength, and equality, but what about materialism? Advertisements often use patriotic symbols to make their product seem all American. Even though this is the main strategy used to advertise Miss Me clothes, there are other subconscious ploys in place to draw in consumers. Miss Me’s advertisement uses the paradox of patriotic unity and our own desire to be distinctive to entice us to buy their clothing.…

The 20th century was a time of rapid development and innovation all around the world, but this competition soon morphed into a form of imperial nationalism in the United States, for a country comprised of so much diversity this can quickly became unhealthy as citizens begin determining what is “un-American”. Plays like, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller can offer a new perspective of the damages caused by our people to our people as a result of paranoia. Blaming individuals, foreign ideas, or other nations for what happened during this time period would be easy, but the United States Government turned its own citizens against each other, they did not hesitate to take away the freedom and security of its own people for the sake of expanding western influence while keeping other foreign ideas out of the United States. This was a century which future generations should look back on and hopefully be able to take the correct steps to avoid making the same mistakes.…

Nationalism is the idea that a nation should be composed of people who are united by common languages, customs, culture, and history. The goals of nationalists were to build a nation that is ruled by them instead of a foreign king or royal family. Nationalism was a threat to the Austrian’s because if they would have recognized those ideas it would have meant the dissolution of the empire. One of the significant nationalist’s movements was the Irish nationalists who wanted independence or a larger amount of self-government. Another group of nationalists was the German nationalists who pushed for political unity among the German peoples. The Greeks also rebelled against the Ottoman Empire to make their own government.
