Consensus Model: Shared Norms And Values

In the consensus model it is assumed that there is a general agreement among the majority in a group of individuals. It comes from the assumption that the group as a whole is able to come to a consensus on shared norms and values. Criminals are those individuals who do not follow those norms and values and can be believed to be a threat to the society. The consensus model presumes that the majority of people in the society have similar morals and that the morals can change over time (Miller, 2015, pg. 3). The consensus model focuses on the general agreement of the majority of society, which is unlike the conflict model. The conflict model is different in that some people believe that morals are not constant or even consistent in large societies.
