General Purpose: Agenda Setting
Specific Purpose: Inform readers about the consequences of texting while driving and influence them to not do it.
Thesis: Texting while driving has become so common in today’s society, that the danger of it is overlooked.

2. Drivers 15-19 involved fatal crashes, 21% of distracted by use of phones (Pickrell, 2011).
B. The facts behind texting while driving
1. 660,000 drivers using/manipulating phone since 2010 (Pickrell, 2011).

3. 49% of drivers with cell phones under 35 send or read text messages (Taylor and Chairman, 2011).

III. Second Main Point – More importantly, causes injuries and deaths that effect others
A. Texting while driving can lead to life long injuries and even death
1. Distracted driving dangerous on America 's roadways. 2011 over 3,000 people killed in distracted driving crashes (Distracted Driving, 2013).
2. Rachel Waugh talks about man named Reggie Shaw who killed two people.
“Reggie received 30 days in jail and 200 hours of community service while today the same crime would send him to jail up to fifteen years.” Shaw says, “no message is worth your life or another persons’ life”. (Waugh, 2010)
B. It does not affect only the people involved in the accident

“Younger Americans are the culprits when it comes to this touchy practice. About one in five residents under 30 admit to at least sometimes texting while driving.” (Marist Poll) My survey you “sometimes” or “often” text and drive vs. experience. It CAN wait.

IV. Conclusion
A. Review Thesis - Texting while driving is a major problem that proves to be dangerous, sometimes fatal, and often overlooked.
B. Summarize Main Ideas –irresponsible/selfish. One text could kill.
C. Strong Concluding Sentence/Final Appeal – Take away phone. Remember what Reggie said, “No message is worth your life or another persons life.”
