Constantine
Constantine was brought into this world on February 27 roughly around AD 285 in Naissus,
Upper Moesia. He belonged to one of the leading families of Moesia. He was son of Helena, a
Inn keeper 's daughter, and Constantius Chlorus, a promising officer. However, In 289
Constantine 's father left Helena to marry the stepdaughter of Maximian, the Western Roman
emperor. He later become emperor Constantius I. Constantine’s father was elevated to deputy
emperor under Maximian in 293.Constantine first early records are served as a young officer in
the court of Diocletian. He was the emperors right hand man and brought a huge amount of
attention. Constantine was looked up to because of his physical strength and natural born
leadership but envied for his remarkable wisdom. Constantine was gave the throne after his
father past away. He became well know for his belief in christian faith and was the first emperor
to embrace it. “In this sign you will conquer”(AHS) was the turning point for the Roman state.
Constantine witnessed a fiery cross against the sun the night before battle. “ Constantine
held himself to be,because he truly believed to be the vehicle for that god’s will, as demonstrated
on the field of battle”(CRE). He asked God that if he was victorious and given wisdom he would

embrace christian faith. He was victorious and then issued the Edict of Milan. This created a
huge impact and gave Christians many firsts. It established the first official government
document that allowed one to believe what one wishes, ceasing persecutions of Christians, and
giving them legal standing.Series of legislations was issued that favored the Christian clergy.
Church lands were tax free and an allowance was given to focus on serving God.
