Dawn’s answer was the one that surprised me. She stated that if there was an option then she would purchase the brand medication. This could be because she does not have multiple medications to keep track of. I wonder if her preference would change if she had around three or four prescriptions like Rose. The last correlation between class and the interviews is Topic 10, The pharmacy Profession. For the most part, both Rose and Dawn see pharmacists as someone who just knows a large amount about medications but have no part in the diagnosis and the prescribing of medications. An example of this can be found in both Rose and Dawn because they were both mothers and hold a high regard for pharmacists because they trusted them to help make their children feel better at a young age. Parents will do anything to help make this sick child get well again as quickly as possible. Age as a determinant is important when it comes to health care costs which grow substantially over time. This is shown in the difference of preference of brand versus generic drugs seen between Rose and Dawn. It was easy to draw connections between class topics and my discussions with Rose and Dawn. To reiterate, the three topics that correlated were as follows: Topic 8- Illness, Disease and health & Professional roles, Topic 6 – Determinants of Health Care Delivery, and Topic 10 – The pharmacy Profession. As discussed above, all the answers given by the interviewees aligned with the objectives stated in class. Overall, interviewing the general public is a great way to see the similarities and difference in both individuals and how they correlate to the actual topics that we learn in a college class
