Within a society there are different kinds of human behaviors. Man is born innocent and is corrupted by society. If a person lives in a civilized society than he/she will be good; but if a person lives in a society that has no order and is corrupted then that person will be influenced in a negative way. The novel “Lord of the Flies,” by William Golding, gives the different stereotypes of man in a society that corrupts due to lack of democracy. Some of the things that define a corrupted society are: violence, revenge(payback), and the abuse of power.
When there is violence in a society, people are influenced in a negative way. For example, in “Lord of the Flies” Jack used violence to make others change to his group. He made the boys think killing was the best solution to everything. Jack’s influence later lead the boys into the pathway of savagery. This is significant because it shows that man can either make society better or worse. It also shows how different things are depending on the ruler. The article “U.S. fires missiles after Syrian town is target of deadly chemical attack” states that “The government, led by President Bashar al-Assad, has killed many who oppose him since the start of civil war in 2011 (Agence France-Presse 2). This shows how strong revenge can be to cause corruption in a society. It causes victims to be involved in group revolts. Those are the kind of revolts that can make a society uncivilized.
