Hello there! My name is Clement Benedicto Runtung or in short you can call me Clement. Clement comes from Latin, which I have made sure of directly from my parents, and has the meaning of mild, good, and merciful. Benedicto comes from Benedict and has a context of being blessed. Whilst Runtung is my family name. In the sense of being curious of where my name came from or even thought of by my parents, I asked my mother once on why she named me Clement Benedicto. My oldest sister’s name is Clairine Beatrice, the second being Clarisza Benedicta, and thus, to make it rhyme, my mom thought of the name Clement Benedicto. And yes, all of us have the initial of CBR, which is really adorable. My home country is in Indonesia, an archipelago in south east of Asia. The one thing I’m in love with my home country is its traditional food; the diversity and variety of the taste reminded me of what home is like. Rendang, one of Indonesia’s traditional food, was even voted and declared as the best food in the world according to CNN’s pick of delicious food. Indonesia, in my opinion, is the best place for a culinary travel; the exoticness of street food will definitely blow your mind away. The one thing I also love about my home is country is that it is the place where my families are; being away thousands of miles from my family has jolted me that family is everything and I should always treasure it wherever I am. I chose foothill because of my friend’s recommendation. He said that the school is located in the foot of a mountain and makes it really cozy for him to study. In love with the weather of mountains, I decided that foothill should be the best place to maximize my study. I’m majoring at business administration right now because I like to study how corporations or firms do their things and how they circulate the economy. I want to transfer to University of Michigan, Ann Arbor to study either business or economy; the reason is that my sister is also there and I’ve

While, addressing how alcoholism possibly affects Janet’s major depression in her counseling sessions seems to fall within the professional counselor’s scope of practice, the direct treatment of alcoholism does not. According to state statutes, the treatment of chemical dependency is done by a licensed professional other than the professional counselor, who specializes in such training. For the professional counselor to do so would be to practice outside the scope of…

There are some conflicting and confusing perceptions of hypnosis. Many people believe that the hypnotist simply places a person into a form of hypnotic trance, where the person has no control of their own actions and thought’s; this however is not necessarily the case. John F Kihlstrom (Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania) stated “The hypnotist does not hypnotize the individual. Rather, the hypnotist serves as sort of a coach or tutor, whose job it is to help the individual become hypnotized”.…

What is a counselling skill, one application of the word ‘skills’ pertains to areas of skill, for instance listening skills or disclosing skills. Another application refers to level of competence, for instance, how strong your skills are in a particular area. Competence in a skill is best viewed not as an either/or matter in which you either possess or do not possess a skill. Rather, within skills area, it is preferable to think of helpers as possessing different levels of strength. In all skills areas you are likely to possess a mixture of levels of strength. For instance, in the skills area of listening, you may be stronger at understanding clients, but less strong at showing your understanding. Similarly, in just about all areas of their functioning, clients will possess a mixture of skills of differing levels of strength. A third application of the word ‘skill’ relates to the knowledge and sequence of choices entailed in implementing a given skill. The essential element of any skill is the ability to make and implement sequences of choices to achieve objectives. For instance, if you are to be good at listening deeply and accurately to clients, you have to make and implement effective choices in this skills area. The object of counselling skills training and supervision is to help trainees, in the skills areas targeted by their training programmes, move more in the direction of making choices that reflect strength. For example, in the skills area of active listening, the objective would be to enable you to make stronger choices in the process not only of understanding clients but also in showing that understanding to them.…

After I read the ASCA Model on page 9 of textbook, I knew the leadership, advocacy, teaming and collaboration and systemic change are all what school counselors should focus on. I also learned that school counseling is a profession that focuses on the relations and interactions between students and their school environment with the purpose of reducing the barriers in order to help students to success. In my opinion, the team-member and collaborator is the most challenging for a school counselor in an urban school setting. Because as an effective team-member and collaborator, school counselor work with teachers, administrators and other school personnel to make sure that each student succeeds. However, sometimes working with other school setting educators is not very easy. For example, some teachers do not like to follow the advices from counselors, they believe that their ways are perfect. Hence, they do not want to hear the voice from counselors. I understand everybody has different ideas, but I also believe that our students will get benefits if we can work together as a team. We share our opinions and hear everyone’s advice. Because our goals are same, we all hope each student succeeds. Even though the coloration is challenging and difficult, we still need to do it with our efforts.…

My philosophy and beliefs come from personal experiences when I was in school. What I thought of a school counselor in high school is a whole lot different than I think of one now. Growing up the only time I saw my school counselor was either I was in trouble or I needed some information about what the ACT was. I thought the school counselor was just someone who sat in their office all day waiting for something to happen. I don’t remember filling out an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or an Educational Development Plan (EDP). I felt like the school counselor was just a waste of school money.…

A human service professional serves patients and families in different healthcare and hospice settings. One of the roles of a human service professional is to provide crisis counseling, which means dealing with cases that involve intense and unpleasant emotions (Martin, 2014).
