2}. INTRODUCTION
According to Taylor (1999) counseling is giving advice/ guidance to a client, it also include assisting a client in problem solving and often family members are included in the counseling session. Interpersonal skills of warmth, friendliness, openness and empathy are necessary ingredients for successful counseling. Counseling is divided into 3 categories which are; motivational counseling, short term and long term counseling. Motivational counseling involves discussing feeling and incentives with client, short term counseling focuses on the immediate problem or concern of the client and family. It can be relatively minor/major crisis, but whatever the situation, it needs immediate attention. Long term counseling is when a counseling extends over a prolonged period of time. A client may needs the counseling of the counselor daily, weekly or monthly intervals and is common in clients who are experiencing developmental crisis e.g women going through menopause needs assistance of the nurse when adjusting to the changes they experience.
