Couples Should Have Children Later
Couples should wait until later in life to have children By; Tammy A Poole

Children are a blessing, but women should wait until they are in their thirties before starting a family. Starting a family later in life gives the women time to enjoy life as an adult, finish school, and decide when it is best to raise a child. Women are taking better care of themselves causing it to be easier to carry and raise a child older in life than ever before. The health risk to the child are now not as great as when once were believed to be. The mother will be at the point of financial clarity and often at the point in her career that she can be more effective parent. Having children later is more baneful to the child and parent.

Social norms are acceptable until they start destroying the psychological states of individuals. When the sexualities of individuals are repressed, symptoms of psychological deterioration occur due to restrictive social norms. These are the circumstances in “The Hands” by Sherwood Anderson and “The Storm” by Kate Chopin. In “The Hands,” Wing Biddlebaum once known as a teacher named Adolph Myers at a boy’s school is chased to a new town in Ohio where he is repressed and fearful of society because he is a homosexual during a time when only heterosexuality is accepted. In “The Storm,” a woman named Calixta is in a restrictive position as a housewife. When she is alone, her past lover, Alcee, coincidentally comes by the house and they have an affair which ultimately relieves her depression. Both protagonists are put in restrictive positions…

A person is ready for parenthood when they feel ready to enter this stage of life. This should be considered when they have their financial needs under control and when they are able to give their child all of the necessities they require. They should postpone parenthood if they feel they couldn’t handle it and if they don’t know if they are going to be able to support another person in their family. I feel it’s up to the individuals themselves. It’s a good experience but a huge responsibility. I don’t feel as if all people should become…

A revolution has taken place in family life since the late 1960s. Today, two-thirds of all married women with children--and an even higher proportion of single mothers--work outside the home, compared to just 16 percent in 1950. Half of all marriages end in divorce--twice the rate in 1966 and three times the rate in 1950. Three children in ten are born out of wedlock. Over a quarter of all children now live with only one parent and fewer than half of live with both their biological mother and father. Meanwhile, the proportion of women who remain unmarried and childless has reached a record high; fully twenty percent of women between the ages of 30 and 34 have not married and over a quarter have had no children, compared to six and eight percent, respectively, in 1970.…

Do you think women are choosing to have children unmarried? In some instances that is true, but most of the time it is a mistake. Today one in three children are born to an unmarried mother. Researchers like Kathryn Edin and Maria Kefalas took a bold step and wrote an article that gives the different points of view about being unmarried with children. In Unmarried with Children, Kathryn Edin and Marie Kefalas, use personal credentials, statistics, external sources, and cause and effect to appeal to the readers’ credibility, reasoning, and logistics to convince them that many single mothers might have been better off if they had finished high school, found a stable job, and married their child’s father first.…

If a man got a woman pregnant the couple got married and in 1960 in America thirty percent of brides gave birth within eight and a half months of the wedding, according to (June Carbone of the University of Minnesota and Naomi Cahn of George Washington University). In those days the husband’s responsibility was to work and earn money for the family and the wife’s was to raise the children and to take care of the home. According to Ms. Carbone and Ms. Cahn, “more than eighty percent of wives with young children stayed at home in 1960.” Couples ended their relationship for different reasons and I believe being a single mother is much better than living with an abusive spouse. But the lack of financial stability hurts women, children and men which can put a strain on relationships making the environment extremely…

I would have never thought that there was an actual good reason to just give birth to a child. I suppose if it were certain circumstances where a woman could not have a child and wanted a surrogate mother, that’s a good reason to have another woman give birth to a child. And don’t get me wrong, I love children and I can’t wait to have them but I never thought there would be a good reason besides “I want something cute to hold onto all day.” I do believe there are right and wrong times to have babies though. First and most important, both potential parents WANT to have a baby. I also believe the parents should be financially stable with solid jobs. Sometimes it doesn’t happen that way and the children turn out perfectly fine, but it’s just something I would want before I have children.…
