1. Introduction
This Human Resource Management and Entrepreneurship course aims at introducing students to the intersections of the fields of human resource management, corporate entrepreneurship and new start-up entrepreneurship by addressing them from theory and practice. The goals of the current course are to introduce students to the various issues that relate to ‘the human factor’ both in large incumbent corporations and in new ventures.
Hence, this course Human resources management & Entrepreneurship aims to combine the state of the art in human resources management with issues of entrepreneurial activities in different organisational contexts of larger existing organisations as well as new start-ups.
Generally spoken, human resource management is a series of activities on the human side of the management of enterprises. Its purpose is to ensure that the employees of an organisation, its human resources, are used in such a way that the employer obtains the greatest possible benefit from their abilities, and that employees obtain both material and psychological rewards from their work. In terms of Porter's (1985) value chain model, general management is linked to a number of support management activities.
