Not a day that goes by that we don’t hear about children around the world who desperately need our help. Whether it’s a headline on the newspaper, a top story on the latest news, or an infomercial on how you can donate money to save an innocent child’s life. Everyone thought it was impossible to make a change, but Craig Kielburger thought otherwise.
At the age of just 12 years old, Kielburger decided he wanted to become an activist for the rights of children all over the world. He had an epiphany after the news broke of a young Pakistani boy, Iqbal Masih, who was shot for standing up for the freedom against slavery – him being a slave himself. Little did Craig know that
this small idea to change the way we see freedom would make such a big impact on the world. This small concept gave birth to the idea of what we know now as “Free the Children”. Craig and a group of his friends brought this organization to life with their drive and determination. This led them to travel to different schools across the country to get the message that freedom and empowerment for all the underprivileged children around the world is important in making this world strong and unified.
Several years have passed since that time and Craig and his brother have taken the initiative in creating another organization called “Me to We”. In conclusion, Craig Kielburger did not only bring pride to Canada with his fortitude and humanitarianism, but to those whose voices were left unheard.
