This editorial is about Jeffrey Baldwin, a little boy who was killed by his grandmother, after he was placed in her care by Children’s Aid. She had previous allegations of child abuse but no one looked into it. They ignored all the signs that could have saved this boys life.
3. What is the author’s opinion on the topic?
The author thinks that more can be done. If people had done their jobs better this little boy might still be alive. He wouldn’t have had to suffer the torture he did through his five years on earth. They think that more changes can be made by child services to ensure that this never happens to another child again.
4. Is this an effective editorial? Explain your opinion.
Yes, I think that it makes you think about what is going on around you. You think about so many children that are taken by the state and put in homes are abused. These places are supposed to be safe for children and give them a better life then they had, instead it kills them. More measures need to be taken to make sure they are safe and the people that are responsible for their lives are doing their job properly so that this never happens again. This is a sad editorial but it needs to be put out there, he should never be forgotten because the things that happened he should have never had to go through. There were 103 recommendations made at his inquest and they need to be looked at and taken into consideration for the future children that are put in care, and currently those who reside within it.
