Kids were dropping from the team left and right, kids who could not take it. Edmundson asked himself if he was going to make it? He didn’t have the physical ability like some of the kids, but he did have will power, that in his words was “anything but weak.” Mark liked how when he was in deep fatigue, he became a tougher more daring person. He liked how the game transformed him, he came on to the field one thing, and when he left he was a guy with physical prowess and more faith in himself. He loved how hard the game was and the rewards that came from all the hard work. Another important thing Mark learned from the game of football was to be tough, to “get up and walk it off”. He once tried to tackle a tight end who was six inches taller than him and 50 pounds heavier. This did not boil over to well. He bounced off the big man and was left in the dirt unconscious, he layed there in pain, but remembered what his coaches had told him, so he indeed got up and walked it off, and he was ok. Football taught him so many lessons that the…

In the article “The Shame of College Sports”, author Taylor Branch describes the corrupt and malignant underside of highly popular college sports complex. He conducts myriad interviews which demonstrate the anger and outrage people feel when they discover athletes are being paid under the table, but argues that ultimately the scandal lies in the structure of the Collegiate Sports Complex itself in which everyone (Universities, Coaches and athletic companies) are getting paid, while athletes see nothing. People show anger each time they learn that yet another student-athlete has been earning money under the table. But the actual scandal is the structure of the college sports, wherein the athletes generate billions of dollars for colleges, universities and private corporations and get nothing in return for themselves.…

The cool fall air brought light goose bumps to my arms. Still a bit bothered by the cold, I took my long brown hair out of its usual ponytail and let it spread out across my back, warming my in the slightest. I rubbed my arms absentmindedly, looking around for Octavia. The football team this year is supposed to be amazing, at least, from what I have been told and from what I have seen. Basically every student at Arrowsmith High School’s life revolved around football, or so it seemed. It…

Corporate America affects the way that we may respond to sport and affect our personal purchase decision. Even our gender can affect the way that we see sport and how others may see us in sports. We may not see it but our position in society affects everything around us even sport and how available sports are to us.…
