Creative Writing: Amanda's Funeral
Muffled sobs and half hearted mumbles rang through the air. "May Our Lord grant peace to his soul.."Priest Winchester droned on; a strong distorted his voice and zig zagged through his hair, causing it to sway to an unknown beat. Anguish ridden eyes glazed as Sam's body lay in it's coffin, mouth opened in a silent cry, eyes stretched wide open as if gazing into an unknown horror. His half torn cheek was fringed with maggots. The gruesome sight sickened many who were very close to the once lively young man.

Amanda sniffled, trying to hold back tears. She was grief ridden and hardly ate or slept anymore in fear of his memory haunting her behind closed eyelids. She bowed her head, hunched her shoulders, closed her eyes and lost herself in happier memories. Minutes melted into hours; the coffin was closed and buried, mourners eventually left the cemetery with heavy hearts and tear stained cheeks.

The glistening, white snow fell slowly to the ground outside the window. The distinct shapes of the snowflakes shown; the light from the street lamp seeping through the cracks. Amanda exemplifies how vital it is that a family unit stay loyal. After Mr. Wingfield disappeared her life has become a constant struggle in order to survive, a far cry from the Blue Mountain setting she idolizes in her past. Amanda symbolizes a downfall, but she also symbolizes drive for her children, encouraging Laura to blossom into something that they can both be proud of and encouraging Tom to keep his job and support his family until they can fend for themselves at least. Laura symbolizes fear and instability through the first five acts. She failed out of her class, that was a hope for a better future, because of her fear and doesn’t let herself actually try to engage in social interactions for fear that she will be inadequate in another’s eyes. Without Laura to feel sorry for and take care of Tom most likely would have left Amanda on her own in Mr. Wingfield’s footsteps a long time ago.…

Me and Jonah went to explore the churchyard to see what this was, as it was the only life we have seen today. We opened the gates the hinges squealed as we pushed to gate to. We stumbled down the pathway, legs like jelly, a place that would normally be so calm, was now so terrifying. I felt the bitter saltiness of the sweat that dripped down from my forehead rolled over me eyebrow down my cheek and dribbled into my mouth. The gargoyles on the church seemed as if they were real and were about to pounce on you. Every gravestone glistened; it was as if all the people buried were stood up like an army in formation replacing the gravestones. All the flowers were dead and rotting, there was no colour in sight. Just…
