Creative Writing: Leaving Middle School
Leaving 4th Grade The sun is shining, the wind is blowing, I put on a big huge smile on a my face as the teacher calls us to go outside for the end of the year school party. "I'm so excited!!" I whisper to my friend Aviva as the teacher calls tables. Another side of me is a nervous wreck, because I thought I wasn't going to make it to middle school, the main reason is that I'm terrible at every subject and I'm going to get an F on every test in the whole 6th grade, I think, as the teacher dismisses the table and I slowly walk toward the outside of the classroom."Boo!" Aviva exclaims. "Whoa! You scared me there, are you out of your mind?!" I joke. As we both head to the classrooms to get some snacks and treats, I turn and look at everyone, one last time before I never see them that way again. I smile as I step inside.

I smell the fresh scent of buttery popcorn as it enters my nose, the aroma is mouth watering. I take an overflowing bag of popcorn before my taste buds explode. When I step out , I hear blasting music from a pair of speakers, Snacks are laid out onto a table, the only thing that caught my eye the most was a gigantic bungee jumper obstacle course. "Oh my Gosh" I whisper to Aviva. "THIS IS THE BEST LAST DAY OF SCHOOL EVER!!!!" I shout as I run up to the giant line of

As we wait in line, the parents started spraying us with a spray bottle filled with water, on the other hand, Mr.K was being chased by kids with water bottles, trying to spray him with it. I start all over again, I brace myself once more. “1,2,3” the parent says once more. This time I ran even faster with my head straight up, facing every little thing in front of me. QUickly, I glance back to make sure that Abigail is far behind me. I climb up the fabric ladder with confidence and rage in mind. I slide down the slide victoriously. “I WIN” I scream loudly as walk slowly towards the classrooms to grab water. I watch Abigail as she slides down way after

32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the…

I'm six years old, and I'm secretly watching the girls in my class loudly chatting in the corner of the classroom. It's 2008, and I'm quietly sitting on my desk, wondering to myself: "Am I not important enough for a simple goodbye?". I nervously shift on the chair, impatiently waiting for the minutes to tick by. My red sweater is itching against my throat. The teacher came in and we begin class as usual. Ms. Claudia is talking about our final reflections…

And, his mother had not gotten off the wagon to go do her business or said anything about eating lunch. So, after bringing the horses and wagon to a complete halt, he turned to Charity and asked, “Why did you want me to stop?”…

Or maybe I'm trying to get you to think like me, hee hee hee. Is it a little jeuvinille to write out laughter like that? I wonder if my editor is going to make me omit that? Anyway, it's the last day of school. Guru, Becky, Carlton, and I were sitting in the usual spot outside the cafeteria. A brick wall that's actually an elevated plot of grass, with a huge willow tree in the center to provide us with much needed shade during these notorious hot days, and considering this is Arizona, shade is almost considered a luxury around these parts. We were staring at the large clock at the north end of the campus, waiting for the little hand and to strike twelve. Last day of school was a half day mind you. Some of the students are already cramming themselves to the outer gates nearing the bus yards, the students who were "spoiled" enough to have cars, were already in them with engines revving and itching to gas it out of here. My friends were talking a little about what we plan on doing after this, we talked about how we will keep in touch, keep in mind in a small town like Yokeman we were about ten years behind the times so internet was this expensive new toy that needed a dial-up modem, before social media became the norm. Guru was already talking about going to college, already found a full time job doing construction work in his grandfather's employ. He laments it, as he believes he doesn't have the proper physique for manual labor, and considering the housing market was crashing fast he's nervous about how long it would last. Becky was fortunate enough to get a full scholarship the the community college thanks to her good grades and volunteer work at the nursing homes. At least the local paper acknowledged her hard work, unlike the faculty here at this school who…

As Fin walked along the street the leaves of the oak trees shone like patches of blue velvet, but when he stopped still nothing shimmered. The waves refused to move. The glow of the city still seeped into the morning sky, forever. He felt he must be dreaming, and yet he was sure he wasn't dreaming because everything felt so real. Surely his brain was not powerful enough to create such a masterful illusion. Or was it? He felt his head imploding just trying to figure it…

My anxiety flutted around in my chest and gripped each breath like a vice. The daunting and steep steps danced in my mind making the simple task of walking up stairs more difficult than the impossible task to run a mile in a minute. Next, a boy pushed the door open behind him almost as an afterthought, but in my chaotic mind it was the best thing all morning to happen. On the dreadful first day of school, chivalry was not dead, or at least that’s how I was able to comprehend his actions. I glanced around unsurely before starting to slowly walk towards the freshman commons; each eye that meets mine screamed enthusiasm.…

“Turn to page three hundred and eight in your excel books”, Said the teacher. What? Shouted the boys on the left. You promised us it was prac today? This is bullshit! A general giggle erupted across the classroom. I felt sorry for the teacher as she and I both knew she was in for an hour of torture. “We only have practical classes once a week, you know that” she said hesitantly. Yeah.. well - that’s shit isn’t it! Said one of the boys. The teacher was beginning to show her frustration but she didn’t reply. She knew they got their kicks out of making her angry so she remained silent. They had made her cry a couple of times this term already. I didn’t see why they liked teasing her; but I still didn’t tell them off.…

The ringing of my alarm clock woke me up; I reached for it to make it stop. Still in my bed, I began to stretch a bit. I barely slept the night before, I was to excite for prom. It was already late Thursday morning, the sun was gleaming through my windows and I knew I had a lot to get done. My mom entered my room “It’s prom day!” she squealed. She seemed more excited about my prom than I was. “C’mon get up, you need to get your hair, nails and makeup done!” I got out of bed and began to start my day. While taking a shower, hot water beating against my skin, I planned out my day. Everything seemed perfect, just the way I wanted it to be.…
