One cold and snowy December 23, my dad and I left for what would be the first professional football game I had ever seen. The whistle blew, the crowd roared, and the game began. My favorite team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, were playing the Minnesota Vikings in what would quickly become a hopeless mauling. At the end of the fourth quarter, the score was 33-3 Jaguars, and the Vikings, who were playing a horrible game, had absolutely no chance of victory. I couldn't be happier. Still, it got better yet. After the game, my Dad and I stood by the overhang of the Jaguars' exit and Jimmy Smith, my favorite player, threw me his glove! I just couldn't believe it. By far, it had been the best day of my life.…

As shown in the attached matrix, QuickBooks scores the highest. This package is very user friendly; it is easy to set up companies, customers, vendors, and employee’s information, especially the address input. It has a text box with a five line field that enables you to enter the address in any format you want. In Peachtree, you must enter each part of the address in its own field. The reporting features are very intuitive and can be customized. For example the Credit Memo report, QuickBooks can easily export it to Excel; contrarily, Peachtree only provide the Print function on this report. The package also tracks aged receivables very well, because on the aging summary report, there are not only four columns of aging intervals that have been set up, but also a Current column that comes before a 1-30 day interval while Peachtree only has a 0-30 day interval. While the software does not provide Allowance for doubtful account and Bad Debt account when you choose a default set up for Retail Company, you have to manually add it to…

In 1976, I moved back to California and continued my journey into the credit granting field at Fair Isaac & Co. (FICO) in San Rafael. FICO was the world's leading developer of credit scoring models at the time (they had already produced in excess of 650 scoring systems for credit grantors in the US and globally). In addition to building credit scoring systems for installment and revolving credit for banks, oil companies and department store chains, I also conducted research into competing methods and researched implications of Regulation B relative to credit scoring methods. In April 1977, I served as a panelist and delivered a paper on statistically assessing model performance upon validation at a conference focused on Reg. B and Credit Scoring that drew attendance from twenty-three states and Canada. My paper was later cited By David Hsia in his article on Credit Scoring and ECOA that appeared in the November 1978 issue…
