Introduction
“The art of thinking about your thinking while you’re thinking in order to make your thinking better.” This quote is the definition of critical thinking. Chapter six in the Strategies of College Success text book, is about learning to think critically, or in the words, essentially evaluating ideas.
Chapter Highlights Chapter six of learning to think critically highlights on multiple topics. One highlight is, What qualities do critical thinkers possess? To be a critical thinker you must look beyond the usual way of doing things and find a new approach. You should also be able to identify and solve unstructured problems. Another quality is to be willing to examine viewpoints opposite your own or to put yourself in another’s place in order to understand a person. A second highlight of the chapter was the process and tools for critical thinking. To process critical thinking you have to gather information, analyze the information and draw conclusions from what you’ve learned. Developing critical reading skills was another highlight used. The main tool of developing critical reading skills is to ask questions. For example, “What’s the authors purpose?’, “Is the author objective or biased?”, “What are your views on the subject?”. Maintaining a “questioning attitude” helps keep you thinking on things that could be possible.

In the article, Think About… Critical Thinking Traits and Characteristics, it gives multiple examples of qualities that smart critical thinkers possess. Good critical thinkers think things through very carefully, instead of going with their first reaction. They deliberate the many possibilities. Good critical thinkers are also inquiring and curious.
