To cryopreserve a patient one must wait until the patient is legally dead, when the heart stops. A patient’s body is then cooled by liquid nitrogen, which is -320 degrees fahrenheit. The body is then put away in storage. Performing this on living people is not yet legal, it is thought that in the future it may be legal to do
so on terminally ill people.
Many people are resuscitated after being deemed legally dead, plus with the advancements of medicine in the future would make surviving cryonics even more plausible. We have brought embryos out of stasis and implanted them into uteruses, and they grew into perfectly normal, healthy babies. Despite this, fully developed people who have been cryopreserved have yet to be brought out of stasis. Currently to bring somebody out of stasis would be deadly. It is hoped that in the future, advancements in nanotechnology and advances in medicine in general will make it possible to bring people out of stasis, and reverse the damage done by being cryonically frozen.
A process like this is not inexpensive. The price for preserving and keeping a body stored costs 28,000 dollars. It is hoped in the future that ailments such as cancer, disease, etcetera will be treatable. Though the price is steep. it offers you the chance of a longer life and possibly a better life in the future.
