How would you feel if your country makes some drastic changes just because one person decides to do it? Since the Cuban Revolution, Cuba has had a lot of changes, starting from the economy situation, consumerism, education and employment. In the 1950's Cuba was economically a relatively advanced country, but the economy since 1959 have been going down the scale like water from the Niagara Falls and never recuperated. Before the revolution the value of the Cuban peso was the same as the dollar, now is 25 times lower. Cuba had as many cattle as people, however now it has one cattle for six habitants. Also, there were a considerable number of national newspapers; Cuba now has only two newspapers (Grandma and Juventud Rebelde) both filled with communist propaganda. Another point of interest is the consumerism and living standard of people. Before the consumerism was dazzling, the annual consume of beef was 40kg per habitant. People could buy anything they wanted without any restriction. Nowadays, the consumerism in Cuba had decayed completely. There are not even consuming real beef, instead of that, they have change and make a mixture of meat and soy meal. Even though that mixture is not pure beef, they control it like if it was, distributing only a few onzes per person monthly. The 1959 revolution did improve certain aspects for the better of the people. Living standards before the revolution were poor and unpleasant for the majority. More than 50% of houses had no toilets of any kind, 85% had no inside running water and 91% had no electricity. The new government changed this, now, more than the 95% of houses have toilets, running water and electricity. Regardless, the Cuban people have to endure many hardships today.
