The concept of neoliberalism is not new to the modern market as this is something that was highly advocated for more so during the birth of capitalism market theories. There were some significant historical events that led to the emergence of neoliberalism and this include political growth, labor movements and shift in investments strategies.
To begin with, Hesmondhalgh explains that the political atmosphere allowed for the concept of neoliberalism to be developed given that there was growth in the understanding of changes as they happened in communications. The more effective communication and more so the telecommunication industry grew, which is generally free to a given extent, the more politics encouraged other aspects to draw inspirations to the same thus neoliberalism. The increase in labor movements calling for changes in the regulation of markets also increased the chances for neoliberalism to emerge (Hesmondhalgh). This is because the more the labor market demanded for better working conditions, the more the idea of a free market place where everyone had the right and the capacity to make profitable business continued to grow. In addition to this, the market was also changing given that more and more individuals were shifting to make investments in the service industry that dealt directly with the customer.
