In his religion, he could not convey the message for a gay marriage between to males. Craig and Mullins wanted things from Phillips that were against his religion so he turned them away. The First Amendment promises, “both freedom from government endorsement of religion and freedom from government interference with religious practices” (Greabe 1). This means that the government nor people can force a person or organization to convey a message they deem objectionable. Because it is Phillips’s religious practice to not convey these sorts of messages, he has the right to turn away Craig and Mullins. “Religious liberty principle protects the rights of churches and people of faith to advocate and act on religious beliefs” (Brief 2). First Colorado’s Anti-Discrimination Act applies to all businesses open to public which prohibits them from refusing service based upon characteristics like disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, or ancestry. Masterpiece cakeshop refused to sell an item to a gay couple that he would have sold to a straight couple. Phillips discriminated against them because of their sexual orientation which violates the regulation of conduct. Similarly, in the Court Case Boy Scouts of America v. Dale they denied Dale (a homosexual) the right to be in the boy scouts even though he was already a member before. Dale won and was granted the right to rejoin the boy scouts because Boy Scouts were discriminating on sexual orientation in public accommodations. When a business is open to the public, they have no right to select which customers can and can’t buy their products or goods. Also the Anti-Discrimination laws, “Guarantee that a dollar in the hands of a Negro will purchase the same thing as a dollar in the hands of a white man” (Brief 38). This also applies to other factors such as sex or marital status. No matter what someone looks like or views they are not to be denied service because their money is no different than another
