There were five participants interviewed in this study. I compared the responses to each other to find common themes that were related between them. I also looked to find common differences as well. To find the answers to my overarching research question I had to perform coding in order to organize common words and themes into categories. The type of coding I performed was grounded coding. My reasoning for this was to put aside any presumptions about the issue. The main areas of focus that I looked for when coding were repeated words as well as the body emotions of each of the five participants. There were three main categories I distributed the common words into and they were “safety of the equipment,” “rules,” and “NFL’s actions”. Furthermore, I looked for any constant thoughts that kept being reiterated. One example of a thought that kept being reiterated in three of the five interviews was this quote from Keller Monks, “making sure players are put in safe circumstances is critical” (Monks). On the same note, there were also three main words that were coded for all five interviews and they were “safety”, “health”, and finally “concussions”. One sentence that kept appearing in the interviews was how the NFL is not held accountable. An example of this is Ava Norman who stated, “The NFL should be held accountable for their actions, they have been let off the hook to many times” (Norman). After coding each of the five interviews I consolidated each coded interview to make one large graph for all five interviews. This allowed me to compare the responses to find common ground between the participants which provided me with the results to the overarching
