Cultural Differences In Latin American Culture
When it comes to Latin American culture, most chalk it up as one giant place that contains all as Spanish speaking countries; however, the cultures create differences where every country can be completely opposite to the other and not be forgotten in the background by another country. Although we all speak one language we have many different accents and modalities. The stereotypes are never ending some of which include: fiestas, siestas, and mañana. Searching for information on the cultural differences between the Latin American cultures is a surprisingly challenging task. Culture is complex to say the least. The same way Tony has a mix of two different ways of life, I do too. Both of my parents were born and raised in El Salvador, while I was born and raised in the United States. The Salvadorian and American culture are very different. In the Salvadorian culture everyone is family oriented and spend as much time as possible with their loved ones. Furthermore the Salvadorian culture does not consider education as a very important matter, getting a job and earning money is more important. The reason for this is that in El Salvador there is a lot of poverty, rather than learning, one's job is to bring food to the table and earn money for necessities. My parents are always reminding me that once I get older I’m going to have to provide for them because that's just “how…

The four Hispanic groups I am going to be writing about are Mexican American, Cuban Americans, Puerto Ricans, and El Salvadorians. The interesting part of these four groups is that they speak the Spanish language. When speaking Spanish, each of these four groups, have a different dialect; however, the spelling is the same, they are pronounced the same, the words have different meanings. In this paper, the following will be discussed: linguistic, political, social, economic, religious, and familial conventions of the four Hispanic groups that are living in the United States.…

I can say the similitudes between Hispanic and Latino is that they are in the same region, but not necessary have to be their first speaking language. Referring to the fact that Hispanic comes from the Latin word “Hispanicus” meaning that is from Hispania, which if we translate to English it will be Spain as the name of the country of España. On the other hand some differences between these two terms will be that Hispanic refers to the same language and Latin is based on geographical. Caribbean’s, Brazil and Portugal they are in the side of Latin American based on the fact that they don’t have different speaking language comparing to the Hispanic. Chicano manly refer to the Mexican-American, meaning that it is originally from Mexicans that…

What happens when cultures collide? When cultures collide conflict arises, each culture is different so it makes sense. Most of the time a resolution is reached, other times, the cultures could disappear. Like the Native Americans of South America, when the conquistadors came, the natives welcomed them with open arms, wanting to be peaceful. The Conquistadors enslaved them and treated them poorly wiping out 90% of their population. Even where the conquistadors never went, Natives died due to diseases brought over from Europe and the remaining 10% were forced to work on Spanish plantations, owned by the peninsulares. This was called the encomienda system, a type of hierarchy for New Spain.…

America’s healthcare system has shown an increasing need for professional nurses who are trained and skilled in providing culturally competent care. With diverse cultures from all over the world each has their own beliefs and views towards health, illness, and healing. For today’s nurses to provide competent care they must recognize and respect the traditions and beliefs of each culture. Nurses must understand who they themselves are and put aside their personal opinions and beliefs to care for each patient without judgment. In trying to gain knowledge on a culture I wasn’t familiar with I interviewed my friend AW who is a native born Mexican American. Her insight into the Mexican culture and their views of health, illness, and healing provided many similarities and differences than that of the American culture. With Americas’ largest minority population being from Mexican backgrounds, nurses must be culturally competent towards their beliefs and customs to provide them with more effective and positive care.…

Women make up half of the world’s population today, however the role of women in history has been limited. It has been noted that Latin American women in colonial times experienced more rights compared to other women in the world. Although these women had more rights there were still gender restrictions. Women in colonial Latin America had the option of choosing two roles. These roles were to become a married woman or to become a nun. The two primary sources of Santa Rosa of Lima, and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, help explain the role and perception of nuns during this time.…

Learning the Spanish language provides insight on the culture of different places around the world. By learning Spanish, we learn and can understand their culture. Also, learning Spanish provides another way for Christians to communicate and spread the gospel. WIthout learning spanish, we would be unable to communicate with other countries about Christianity, which is our main purpose on earth. In Latin America it is normal to call Spanish, castellano. Latin Americans do not use vosotros. Instead they use ustedes because it is more formal. People from spain, on the other hand, do use vosotros. For some different objects, the names are different. For example, a pen is boligrafo in Spain, but lapiz pasta in Chile.…

    * Many women learn how to calculate their ovulation when they first talk to a doctor about birth control. But some may still question whether they can get pregnant if they aren't ovulating. The answer to that question is not as straightforward as it seems. One would think that if a woman isn't ovulating, she can't get pregnant. This is only partially true. Generally, a woman isn't fertile if she isn't ovulating. If she isn't ovulating, she has no egg present to be fertilized outside the ovulation period. The confusion comes when trying to decipher when the ovulation period really is. Sometimes a woman can ovulate beyond what she considers her normal ovulating period, and she can become pregnant outside of her calculated fertility window.…

Hispanic people tend to perform actions that benefit the whole as a group rather than focusing on one's self. The culture focuses on the idea that it is better to grow as a together rather then living separated. My parents always criticize the fact that we have lived in our house in New Jersey for over twenty years and yet we only know a handful of the neighbors on our street. In Ecuador neighbors would talk outside of their houses and send each other plates of food for no reason at all. Of course this also meant there was more gossip that floated around the entire town, which was clearly a…
