Cultural Diversity for me as an Individual

My town is very diverse and we have a mixture of a lot of different people that live in this town. When I grew up it was not racially equal and we had a whole lot of adjusting to do, we did and I think for this moment we are doing just fine.
The face of America is changing –becoming more diverse and complex than at any time in our history. We are no longer a white-black society struggling to integrate two major groups of people who have been in this country for nearly 400 years, but multicultural, multi ethinic society in which newcomers are arriving in record numbers every day . The 1980s will be remembered as a period of one of the highest levels of immigration in our nation’s histoty. Some ten million persons immigrated to the United States in the last decade, a number as great as that of the peak decade, 1900 to 1910.
It is possible to study the individual culture of the ancestors of each group represented in America ? That depends on how superficial we are willing to be. I suppose it is possible to develop a dictionary of cultural literacy of every major group and teach children to memorize a few facts and dates about each. Given our current success with children’s learning to locate Arkansas on a map of the United States or China on a map, of the world, or tell in what half a century the Civil War was fought, or to name more than four presidents of the United States. I don’t know what hope there is that such a project would have any lasting benefit. But there are other problems with this approach as well. Who

Diversity is defined in the dictionary as "the condition of being different." A crucial mistake many people make is to equate diversity with "race" and "culture". They think diversity is about "what Hispanics are like" or "what Europeans are like". “This approach is inherently flawed because it reinforces stereotypes and promotes an "us versus them" mentality. Diversity extends far beyond race and culture to include a number of dimensions of differences”. Loden and Rosener (1991). Valuing diversity recognizes differences between people and acknowledges that these differences are a valued asset. It also respects individuality while promoting respect for others.…

Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare that tells a story about to star crossed lovers who end up dying due to their love for eachother. It isn’t until after their death that their families realize how foolish their hatred for each other was. Throughout this play, many characters express the traits of love, hatred, and loyalty. Although many characters show these traits multiple times, there are some characters who express them the most. We see that Romeo expresses his love for others in many ways, Tybalt and his fiery hatred for the world destroys lives, and Juliet’s loyalty is strong that even death won’t break it.…

Diversity is an important part of American culture. Cultural diversity has helped to shape the way we live everyday as well as the different foods we eat. What really thought me about diversity is that it is not limited just too racial or ethnic groups but other minority groups. The new information I have learned about diversity still has not changed my views. I think it is important to learn about others cultures and backgrounds. Without knowledge about other cultural groups we would only have stereotypes to go off of. Stereotypes without proper knowledge can lead to discrimination or prejudices.…

Diversity means that every individual is different and unique. No matter what your language, race, sexual orientation, gender, age, religion or physical ability, we all form one diverse group. You will never find two people exactly the same as everyone is from different backgrounds and walks of life. I see a diverse group in my setting as all the children are from different backgrounds. I personally think that children need to understand the importance of diversity from an early age so they can recognise and see that they are all individuals.…

The term "diversity" is used broadly to refer to many demographic variables, including, but not limited to, race, religion, color, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, age, education, geographic origin, and skill characteristics. “Diversity should be respected and valued because nobody is completely the same as anyone else, even within the categories above. People tend to reject what is different. Our differences/diversities can lead to growth as a society or it can lead to violence and hatred. We must value our diversity in order to work together for the common good of our society/world.” (Source: US Dept of the Interior)…

In simple terms, cultural diversity can be defined as the level of diversity or difference in a given society. Societies that display high levels of diversity exhibit many differences across that population. Differences can include skin color, religious affiliation, cultural practices and other ethnic beliefs and customs. Immigration is a major factor in determining the level of diversity that a given society is exposed to. Ever since the dawn of time, humans have traveled the globe in curiosity to interact with other civilizations. These interactions were either well intentioned to share and form partnerships, or militaristic conquests to expand territories and force populations to conform to foreign ideals. These such interactions helped to foster cultural diversity both genetically, as is the case with Attila the Hun, or substantively through the spread of cultural beliefs and practices worldwide.…

There are some many different types of cultural diversity in today’s world. With the many different cultures and the many different races there are so many different cultures that are over looked or misunderstood. Cultural diversity is the cultural variety and cultural differences that exist in the world, a society, or an institution. For many kids they will never get the opportunity to be able to learn about the many cultures, this in return keeps them from completely understanding their many classmates as well as they grow up understanding their coworkers. The government and the school districts have made it difficult for kids to be able to learn about different religions and different cultures. It seems more that the school district want nothing to do with culture as they are afraid of making a parent angry since so many parents seem to have a fit anytime religion is brought up in school. An example is my kids are mixed race and their religion is Muslim but most people do not understand their religion and associate it with terrorism when in fact there are so many Muslims in America who are great people. In order to help kids to be able to understand the many different cultures in a class I would try an incorporate different cultures into their learning. Each month could be to learn about a different culture and be able to build a culture board where the class will learn about a culture such as their way of dress, the different foods they eat, and the different types of celebrations they have. By teaching kids about different cultures at an early age will allow them to be able to understand their classmates and when they move on the adulthood they will be able to have more of a connection with their peers and coworkers.…
