and lack of faith in their nation. Although some parts of America are extremely patriotic for better or for worse some are quickly losing faith in where the country is headed; usually due to recent changes made. Despite our country improving socially, it still has issues and is arguably getting more divided recently. Who knows how far this will go and if we face the same fate as Rome.
On the second recording about privatization, both America and Rome had privatization in thier governments usually for efficiency and/ or the needed funds (the government needed to give operations to private companies or contractors to get the job done- more traditionally in Rome).
Some could argue that it is a marketing mechanism; however, this can lead to the reduction in power and the diminishing of sectors in the government. It is not even just government sectors that are being bought out, it is even prisons, sewer systems, and parts of the military. In my opinion, this can lead to even more corruption in the government and federal systems. This is because the government no longer has complete control over these parts and the new owners have most of the say. In private prisons, there is a quota of people that need to be in the prison which leads to several infractions given to the prisoners leading them to stay longer than their original sentence. This is just prisons, imagine what is going on in the actual government
portion.
On the third and final recording about military issues, I found it interesting we had the same issue about our military. That the military was too small of the jobs they were given and too large for what they could spend. I think we should cut military spending, I mean, 824.6 billion dollars?!?! That is too much for anyone, especially us being 13.62 trillion dollars in debt. Which will/ has become a problem in America which would differ from Rome. That leads to America and Rome's complexity issue because they were/ are so big and powerful, they forget about how we affect other countries and people around us. Most Americans and Romans were egocentric and only thought about their own country, and this affected both countries in an extremely negative matter. Murphey talked about Osama Bin Laden and how he was "touched" by the United States without u noticing at first. He also mentioned Rome, but he did not elaborate that much, but I am just guessing he was refering back to the underestimation of the "barbaric tribe" that lead to the downfall of their civilization.
A quick wrap up, America and Rome are very similar, and if we do not clean up our act, we will probably face their face or something close to it. In some ways, we are better than the Romans, and in other ways, they are better than us. The important thing is to learn from the past to prevent future mistake (whether or not government officials acknowledge them)
