Culturally it’s looked down upon if the man makes the wife’s last name and it helps us to keep the family name alive through children. Generally, the way a person lives is a fundamental part of the way they had been taught from an early age. A tradition could be something as simple as a way they cook food, wash dishes, do laundry or clean; however, we may change some aspects of what we were taught, but the fundamentals are still there. Traditions can also be the way we celebrate certain holidays or times people get together. I know for my family we are spread out all throughout the eastern seaboard and the Midwest, we find time to hold family reunions every two years to catch up and see each other. During certain holidays the some of the families will get together to celebrate. One of the core things all the families do as a tradition is to pray before every meal. The person who prays is the eldest who is attending. A family is important to me and the cultures which I have seen practice over the years is something I am proud of, and it allows for me to look forward to being the eldest and saying the prayer. I don’t believe that my family traditions have inhibited my growth as an Individual nor have it hindered my self-identity. If anything these traditions has allowed me to grow more into the person I wanted to be and am
