Curley's Wife Analysis
The author choose not to give curley's wife a name because shes really doesn't have a role because she's not around most of the time but when she is, trouble follows causing that rising action to lead to the climatic point of the story and of course, the downfall. First, curley's wife stirs up conflict which then leads to curly despising lenny. When george and lennie first moved into their new place on the ranch curley's wife showed up in their bunks. She stayed and talked for a little bit, then left. When she did this, curly walks into the room 15 minutes later asking if George or Lennie had seen her. Curly left after they told him what they knew about curley's wife. When he comes back he was saying to slim (who he found hanging around …show more content…
After the next day when everyone (except lennie and curley's wife) were playing horse shoe toss. Lennie was in the barn panicking because he had killed the puppy he was going to keep because he was playing too rough with it. Then curley's wife enters and stats talking to lennie about she could have been someone rather than to be the little old housewife that had a horrible life because she's not supposed to leave the little house of hers and curlys. She then started talking about how she likes things that feel nice and lennie started getting all excited or as the book says “ he began to panic” after he let her pet her hair to feel how it felt like velvet. Lennie began to pet harder and harder till she was screaming for him to stop which in that instance, lennie used one hand to hold on to her and the other to silence her. He started saying over and over how george was gonna give him hell if she kept on screaming and told her to be quiet until she stopped moving. Lennie then said “i've done a bad thing, hide in the bush, like george said” so when this happens curley's wife had been killed by lennie so he ran off into the mountains and hid in the bush were lennie was told to go if work at the ranch went south. This supports my thesis because she didn't exactly played a role where she needed to be named and so she was never given one. But however, she sets the story in motion because what she does leads up to the point of the end of the

From the moment George and Lennie were introduced to Curley’s wife, we could feel the tension rise. From just fleeing the last place they worked because of a run in with Lennie touching a woman, it’s an acceptable accusation that Curley’s wife will be directed to the conflict of the story. Another moment that predicted the end of the story was when Carlson shot Candy’s dog. Carlson said that the dog was aged and useless, that he wreaked of everything that smelt crummy and there is no point in keeping him around. It is safe to say this was a direct comparison to how useless everyone saw Lennie and we could infer that something similar that happened to Candy’s dog would happen to Lennie later on in the novella. Steinbeck made us see the treatment of elderly and mentally ill…

This makes the reader sympathize with her because she is being forced into a loveless relationship and is lonely with no one to talk to. A victim; someone who is harmed by an event or action. Curley’s wife, a character often perceived as cruel, is really misunderstood. Throughout the story, her name is never mentioned, and while she tries to interact with the other characters, she is always pushed away and rejected. Her imitation of the cruelty she experiences is just a reflection of how she is treated by the people she tries to communicate with. The impulsiveness she exhibits while decision-making is a result of her need for attention, which only strengthens the more she is rejected and isolated. Communication is crucial to the survival and well-being of a human, and because of civilization, acknowledging somebody’s name is just basic respect. As a result of failing to acknowledge…
