Cybercrime: The USA Patriot Act
Legislation in the past decade has focused and cracked down greatly on cybercrime. As cybercrime has advanced, so has our legislation to keep up with and stay ahead of the criminals who go to the web to commit their crimes.
Some of the recent legislation that addresses cybercrime is the USA Patriot Act, which extends law enforcement investigative abilities while investigating terroristic acts and threats. Moreover, there were expansions to existing statutes such as patent laws, espionage, and sabotage laws, trade secret laws, the Copyright Act of 1976, and the Financial Privacy Act. Additionally, in 1998, the Child Protection and Sexual Predator Punishment was passed.
