Society Vs. Individual The period of American History 1607-1763 is best understood using the Society Vs. Individual theme. Three examples demonstrate this. The three identifications that are used as evidence to support my thesis are Anne Hutchinson, Metacom, and the Enlightenment. All three of the identifications show how the Society vs. Individual theme represented the period of American History from 1607-1763. To begin, Anne Hutchinson is a Puritan activist who lived in New England with the Puritan colony from 1636-1638. Anne Hutchinson fits into the Society vs. Individual theme because she went against the Puritan church because she believed that Puritans don’t have to follow the rules so strictly. This is an example of the Society vs. Individual theme because Anne later was trialed and exiled from the boston colony. She changed American Governing because she believed in personal freedom and later America became a nation based on freedom. Anne Hutchinson’s specail actions shaped the future of society using enlightenment thinking, including freedom of speech and religion. Metacom was a Native American leader who united tribes to rise up against the Europeans. The Native Americans were underdogs in the early period of American History because the Europeans were more advanced in weapons and military. Metacom and his army were not successful but is represents the theme because they were the underdogs and shaped the society of rebelling against the Europeans because this was a theme that happens throughout American History. The final identification that supports the Society vs. Individual theme is the enlightenment. The enlightenment was the most important event in American

“Mrs. Hutchinson, you are called here as one of those that have troubled the peace of the commonwealth and the churches here. While, he was speaking these harsh words that day it is said that Anne stood listening to the charges without even flitching. Many historical texts about the American Revolution and the events leading up to it are generalized, unspecific and do not investigate the preliminary causes of the changes America underwent before the Revolution. However, A New England Town by Professor Kenneth Lockridge attempts to describe how the colonies in America developed by following the progress of a typical Puritan colonial town, Dedham, Massachusetts, from its inception in 1636 through its first one hundred years. It is Lockridge’s belief that colonial history can be better learned through thoroughly examining one specific town instead of shallowly studying many. Because the development of Dedham was mirrored throughout New England, it proves to be the perfect case study to observe the changes that occurred during that time period in each American colony. Lockridge states that Dedham’s history is duplicated in other towns “to a great extent” and by enlarging this history, it reveals that “this part of colonial America was moving away from a powerful, corporate impulse deeply indebted to the European past, toward an age of pluralism, individualism, and liberty” (165).…

Born in England, Anne Hutchinson immigrated to Massachusetts Bay with her husband and family in 1634. Her increased interest in the teachings of religion and weekly discussion groups in her home that attracted the church elders. These types of preaching pose a threat to the local church elders of Massachusetts and cause these Puritan leaders to be uneasy about the involvement of women in the religious realm. This weekly preaching…

In “Modernization and the Modern Personality in Early America, 1600-1865” (1972), Richard Brown agrees that the American Revolution played a prominent role in America’s long-term social development. The two historians also share a similar description of the British colonies seemingly paradoxical traditional/modern society. Brown views modern elements in widespread political participation and the reduced distribution of wealth, while associating decentralized government, a lack of formal institutions, and an economy based in agriculture as more…

A dead beat dad should be penalized for not taking care of their child by providing financial support. Dead beat dads should serve jail time; attend an educational program, and show these men the circumstances that they have forced their child and mother to live in. In most homes children are born out of wedlock. Even though a child is born out of wedlock, it is still both parents responsibility to contribute to the child needs. Unfortunately, its easier said than done because this is not happening much in today’s world. A deadbeat dad isn’t just someone who doesn’t pay child support. A deadbeat dad is also a man that is mostly never around his kids, break promises that he makes to his kids, and doesn’t help contribute to his kids house hold by taking care of home finically. The term “deadbeat dad” came from child support agencies that used the term to identify men who had fathered a child and choose not to pay child support ordered by a family court of law. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, "Children who have fathers in their lives learn better, have higher self-esteem and show fewer signs of depression than children without fathers". Dead beat dads are a menace to our society.…

Mothers and fathers have multiple jobs, but their most significant job is to raise and nurture their children. Together or separately, parents are there to help their children become good people. While mothers tend to have a comforting touch and help their children feel secure, fathers believe in challenging their children. Both styles build confidence, but in unique ways. Although there are many differences in the parenting styles of mothers and fathers, they still share the primary job of helping their children know the difference between right and wrong.…
