Daily Intake Analysis Paper
Daily Intake Analysis Living and promoting a healthy lifestyle are both extremely important to me; this particular exercise allowed me to gain additional insight into my everyday food intake that I was not completely aware of. Overall, I generally eat a fairly healthy and plentiful diet, however, I did discover some lacking areas, as well as areas that I am successfully sustaining an adequate amount of the suggested target value. When shopping I typically purchase raw foods such as vegetables and fruits and simply eat them as is to make the process of meal prepping timely and convenient. However, I discovered that my diet lacks in the grain and dairy aspect; I mostly eat microwaveable grains, such as rice and pasta, while my dairy consumption is typically …show more content…
Grains, vegetables, dairy, and oils were all food groups where I consumed under the suggested value, while fruits and protein based products were items in which I consumed over the suggested value. The areas where I consumed under the recommended value, excluding the dairy food group, were only under the target value by an average of 2 ounces. My dairy consumption was nonexistent because I typically don’t consume these particular products, and substitute dairy based sources with items such as almond milk. In order to increase my dairy consumption I plan to consume soy milk instead of almond milk, and see the beneficial gains associated with doing so. I was able to meet and exceed my fruit and protein consumption however, by an average of 3.5 ounces. I generally do not eat beef, pork, or chicken products, and have trouble finding affordable and convenient sources of protein, however after examining the completed results I discovered that I have no trouble meeting my target protein value, which was some what of a surprise to me.

    I am not a picky eater or one who watches what I eat. I enjoy cooking and I love to eat food that is bad for me. My favorite meal is fried pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, turnip greens and corn bread. I am from the south where we use food as a comfort item. When we are happy, sad, mad or just board we eat. We have festivals to celebrate the food we eat. My diet is way off the SuperTrackers recommendations. I eat mainly one meal a day sometimes two. I do not eat a lot of fresh fruits. I need to stop drinking so many soft drinks and I should take out the sugar in my tea. I consumed little to no fresh fruits on a daily basis. I eat a lot of protein, but still not what I should eat daily I only ate around 40% of what I should have. One thing I should do is eat more of the good foods and do less snacking during the day.     The basic Bar graph report compared my intake values to the recommended intake values for my age, gender and activity level; overall, the comparative bar charts showed that for most of the values, I was close to the recommended amounts. However, a few nutrients that I was over consuming were protein, saturated fat, cholesterol, and vitamins B2 and B12. Other than cholesterol, all the consumption values for the other nutrients were at 200% or more. For vitamin B2 and B12, this was not too concerning, because no upper limit for these vitamins have been set yet, for toxic side effects from these vitamins have yet to be documented. The high levels of saturated fats and cholesterol in my diet most likely stem from the high amount of animal products (milk, cheese, and meat) that I consume. The overconsumption of these nutrients can increase my blood cholesterol levels, and increase my risk for cardiovascular disease.
