After read Daisy Miller
Recently I read the novel daisy miller which written by Henry James. It’s a short novel but the vocabularies are difficult to me, so after I found the movie and saw it with Xueqin.
Daisy is an American girl who is beautiful and open. Her kindness and passion make her so charming that many gentlemen admire her. She traveled to Europe with her mother and brother. All her family …show more content…
members are talkative and let everything go for feeling. It seems annoying, but on the other hand, it just shows their innocent. Then the beautiful, open, innocent American girl met Mr. Winterbourne. He is a kind and humor gentlemen, they fell in love with each other. Daisy is a girl who doesn’t like to be tied. She always does what she wants to, and never mind other’s words. She likes to make friends to those wise gentlemen, likes to travel and jogging with them. But the only man she loved is Winterbourne. I think Daisy is familiar with another character—Alice. That’s why I titled this article like that. They are both independent and advanced, when face the authority and tradition, Alice escaped to the dream, Daisy choose to face and challenged them. Mr. Winterbourne is her wonderland.
Once they went to castle together, talk and laugh. Although she always say” you’re stuff!”, she knows that only he can give her all his belief, tolerate, and understanding. He can answer all her strange question and respect her, no matter how freeness she is, no matter how many people dislike her.
He’s just like a dream, the only haven.
She hate those old things, she like to challenge them, but she’s not as strong as she think.
Because more and more people blame her, winterbourne was changed. At first people said she was a flirt, he always defend that “she was innocent”. But he wasn’t believe and understand her. Daisy seems close to Mr. Gionavelli, but when they singing together, she stared at winterbourne. She want to use this extreme way to prove the love between them. As if winterbourne believe her, she can win the wars between herself and the world. But finally she was lost.
She was lost to the world.
Just as the end of the story. She caught the disease and died. The last time she met winterbourne, he told she that if she going round at night again, she’ll catch the disease. She answered” I never was sick, and I don’t care to get the roman fever.”
She is so confident and fearless, but that time the walls in her heart have already collapsed.
PS: I really like this story very much, how I wish I can write this composition in Chinese…

Daisy·Miller
I choose this book just because the front cover is beautiful. Of course, this is an interesting story written by the Henry James. Daisy Miller which is the most famous and popular novel of Henry James, is also regarded as the first international novel. The story describes a very pretty and charming American girl named Daisy Miller who is very open and fond of social activities. Because of her free behaviors, she is wildly considered as a flirt. People all think that she is out of the manners and uncultured. Gradually the lover Winterbourne also doesn’t believe her. At last, she dies of fever with all the scandals. Her self-esteem and self-respect are destroyed. At first, I thought this was a common romantic love story, a beautiful lady meet a gentleman in a sunshine afternoon. But then it goes into a totally different way. Actually the book focuses on the culture conflicts. Daisy Miller represents new type young single American girls, who have far more freedom than her European Counterparts. She is active, open and innocent. But unfortunately, her innocence kills her. I don’t think she should behave too open in a conservative environment. It’s silly of her to do such kind of things which can invite so many rumors .If she wants to win people’s acceptance and respects; she should obey some social rules. But in reality she doesn’t care and does anything she wants. She dies at last. It is not Winterbourne’s fault to lose trust on her. All that she has done are too hard for him to understand and accept. She makes acquaintances with so many gentlemen and she even goes out with them at late night. It’s no wonder that they would misunderstand her. I admit that she is really a kind girl to treat everyone fairly and friendly. Maybe she is too innocent to live in this world.
