Ponyboy dies because of the burns from the fire, Dally is greatly upset by this. Dally was too stressed and upset about the way his friend died to think straight, so he runs away. He robbed a store because his friend died and did not know what to do. Dally runs from the store owner, the police are chasing him. he turns to act like he was going to shoot at the cops and instead they shot him. The outsiders felt sad because they had to watch Dally die. Soda said to Steve, "Easy buddy, easy... there is nothing we can do now" .
