The issue of slavery in America is a vastly documented phenomenon that captivates the interest of nearly everyone with a slight interest in history. It is a dark and fascinating subject yet still an overlooked part of our young nation’s history. Though there are countless books and articles written on the topic, few provide such compelling and brutally truthful accounts of the hardships endured by slaves as Harriett Jacobs in Incidents of a Slave Girl. Within this novel, she attempts to describe her situation under the laws dictating her life as a slave. She writes as to persuade the reader not to judge her as she tells them all she has bared in her life. As a young girl when she became a slave, she was subject to harassment, particularly by sexual means, more so than her male equals. Through the course of her book, Jacobs describes her predicament and attempts to survive and surpass it.…

As I said above, music certainly has so many positive impacts and power. The sound, messages, activities and artists’ attire directly impact on listeners and society in powerful ways. Sometimes, it could be negative also. Some lyrics have become explicit to drugs, sex and violence. It has significant impacts on behavior, mood and lifestyle too. Some rap music has sexual and abusive language as well as message of violence and racism. Drug, tobacco and alcohol use also tend to be glorified in these songs. Some studies have shown that there is a correlation between bad behavior and negative music contents. In some song album, alcoholic theme has been showing with drugs, which have profoundly impact on youth’s lifestyle and people blindly follow these artists that can lead to some detrimental effects on their lives, health and behavior. Rap music videos can illustrate glamorous and dangerous fantasies of wealth and sex appeal. The people who listen violent and aggressive music, tend to be more violent in their life. The most famous instance in which music has been blamed for violent acts was the Columbine shootings, in Littleton, Colorado in which 12 were killed and 24 were injured. In addition, more car accidents have been noted due to aggressive and fast pace music played in cars. The hot water pulsates on my back like a heart beat after a dynamic performance. My shower is over and my fun will soon begin. My girls called me frantically on the phone screaming about the hottest party in town and I am definitely going to be seen there. I search through my closet to see what I can wear. I pick out one of my favorites; it’s a sleeveless floral chiffon blouse. It has this beautiful pop art design of red, yellow, green, and purple flowers with a ruffled detail at the waist. It’s super sophisticated, cosmopolitan, and very trendy in today’s fashion world. I top it with the perfect summer essential which is some non-cliché khaki linen shorts. I love them, because they are great for my legs, making me appear to be like a flamingo, long and graceful. Now it’s time for my for the number one highlight of my outfit; the shoes. My girls and I always try to outdo each other when it comes to our “foot work.” I search through piles and piles of shoe boxes looking for the perfect shoe and at last I found a pair. Tonight I’m going to talk a walk on the wild side with my crocodile embossed, gladiator inspired, brown sandals. They’re fresh from Steve Madden, right off the new arrival section, they’re so debonair; and I know none of my girls have these. I’m still not done with my regalia. It’s time for the accessories that I know will be the perfect addition to animating my glamorous ensemble. As I look into my jewelry box I have absolutely no idea what to choose from. Ok, so maybe I will start with the handbags. Should I do my olive, oversized, multicolored clutch? Or my textured woven tote bag with the chain link shoulder straps? Well, since it’s a party and I don’t need to really carry anything besides my cell phone and lip gloss, I decided to grab my clutch purse. I suddenly hear a car horn blowing really loud and I know it was them. Darn it I’m not even ready. I quickly throw on some wooden and gold plated bangles and a pair of golden sage eardrop pendants,…

The dictionary defines dance as "an artistic form of nonverbal communication" (dance). As Christians we have always heard that dancing is immoral; that dancing only led to one thing- sex. Although this is the general belief, many people find the art of ballet, such as The Nutcracker to be tasteful. Dancing embodies passion, grace and poise. Dancing is not just a mating ritual as we have been told; it is a story that is too good for words. Dancing is a way to communicate with anybody no matter what language they speak or how old they are. It is a way to cross barriers and touch souls.…

I joined my first dancing class when I was five years old I loved it. Ever since that, I’ve continued to attend dance classes as years passed by. I’ve done ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop. I presently take dance class in high school and I love it. I love it because we do different kinds of dances and the class is just too fun. We’ve done different things in dance class whether it was the teacher teaching us a dance and or when it was the students coming up with our own dances. That which I enjoyed the most!…
