I. INTRODUCTION: Have you ever looked at the back of food packages and wondered what those long named ingredients listed are or what they even mean? Personally, most of the time I do not even know what half of those big words are or sometimes I do not even bother to look at the ingredients list. Well, all these big, complicated words are fancy names for the additives that the manufactures use to increase the shelf life of the food, to enhance the flavor and color of the food and for many other reasons. There are two types of additives, natural and artificial. Natural additive come from natural sources while artificial additives are made synthetically. Busy lifestyles have forced people to buy more processed foods with have all these additives. According to an article by PBS, Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation: Why the Fries Taste Good (Excerpt), about 90 percent of the money that Americans spend on food is used to buy processed food. Well today I am going to talk to you about why people should avoid consuming foods that contain artificial additives and then I am going to provide you with some solutions to how you can do that.
II. BODY: Problem
A. Everything is artificial.
1. In older days, fruit flavored really meant made from real fruit.
2. According to an article by Los Angeles Times, Fake blueberries abound in food products, written by Shari Roan, Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats Blueberry Muffin that claims to have blueberries actually has no actual blueberries instead it has blueberry flavored crunchies made from the sugar and dye.
3. There are artificial foods like this that we eat every day that aren’t healthy for us with no benefits to us, just harm.
