Dare Marilyn Halvoron Character Traits
Searching For Who I Am

In the novel Dare, Marilyn Halvorson suggests that Dare changes by realizing his poor choices lead to nothing but trouble. Without his family’s help and the events that occurred he would not have been the person he turned out to be. Laura had been patient and considerate with him, she wanted him to learn how to show respect. Also, when Dare got sent to jail he had an epiphany on how much freedom is a privilege and it should not be taken advantage of. When Chief died, Dare also realized how much Chief meant to him, it made it clear to him to appreciate everything that is around him and to treat them with kindness.

Dare has never been the best kid, he did not show his best behaviour but Laura was willing to change that. Ever since Dare and Ty moved in she has showed them both how to be responsible. She forced Dare to do his chores and yardwork even though he did not have the motivation to do so. Laura was very understanding and helped him get back out to the world again after their grandmother’s death. All the kind assistance Laura had given to Dare, helped him to become a better person. He is now responsible and he has learned how to respect everyone around him.

At the age of ten, most children are dependent on their parents for everything in their lives needing a great deal of attention and care. However, Ellen, the main character and protagonist of the novel Ellen Foster, exemplifies a substantial amount of independence and mature, rational thought as a ten-year-old girl. The recent death of her mother sends her on a quest for the ideal family, or anywhere her father, who had shown apathy to both she and her fragile mother, was not. Kaye Gibbons' use of simple diction, unmarked dialogue, and a unique story structure in her first novel, Ellen Foster, allows the reader to explore the emotions and thoughts of this heroic, ten-year-old girl modeled after Gibbons' own experiences as a young girl.…

Both Wes Moores’s family, were very important to them. They both loved and cared for their family dearly, and tried to do they best they can for them. Wes 1’s family deserves credit for gearing him in the right direction. I feel if Wes’s mother, Joy, didn’t care so much about her children’s education he wouldn’t be where he is today. She cared so much they moved and changed schools. She knew kids in public school didn’t care and weren’t good influences on Wes. He got into a fight with some kids and then after was talking to his uncle. He got into the fight because the kids said Wes had changed. And his uncle replied, “The problem isn’t that you changed, its that they haven’t.” I really like this quote because it says so much about Wes as a person. He worked hard and became better then the neighborhood he lived in. I admire Joy’s determination to get the best for her children. Wanting them in a better school to escape where they live. It led him to move on with his life and accomplish a great deal. When someone is encouraging you to do better, it builds your confidence and lets you believe in yourself. Wes’s family believed in him, so he could believe in himself.…

Companionship is a necessity for those seeking happiness and peace of mind within their lives. Without any faith in others, people will suffer from loneliness and sorrow. This idea is presented in the novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck. The text delineates the lives of multiple characters who have experienced pain as a result of their alienation from others. These characters include a black man, named Crook’s, who is separated from society because of his skin color, Curley’s wife who, in the time period, was treated with disrespect because of her gender, and two itinerant farm laborers, George and Lennie, once the best of friends, who have lost each other in a world of fear and misfortune. This concept of isolation is developed through…
